Does anyone have the Acura part number for the plastic bezel for a non-navigation '05 TL? My TL has navigation, but I want to get rid of the nav buttons. I am in the process of rounding up the parts do this tablet integration, but I do not want the factory navigation buttons if they will not be functional.

I couldn't find one on eBay...

they dont sell the bezel itself I checked. you would need to buy the unit used for a cheaper price then new, new is expensive.

should try ebay.

For those who have already done this with the Acer or Samsung Galaxy Tab, do you think a Nexus 7 could be used. Measured at the longest horizontal measurement, the Nexus 7 is 0.2" longer than the other tablets that are known to fit. Do you think there's clearance for the extra length?

^similar to what i was thinking.so far we have an acer a100 and a smaller smasung galaxy tab 2 that can be used.i was just wondering what other tablets can be used in the event those 2 become discountinued.

On the more curious side, judging by how the OP did his wiring, this means that the tablet itself can turn on when the car is off, however no sound will play through the speakers correct?

Correct - no volume unless the ignition is switched on (engine running or not).

I'm in the process of trying to figure out how to utilize the 5.1 surround in the car through the tablet. May have to adapt something through the mini hdmi port...

Sorry but i'm a little bit confused with that statement, are talking about using the surround sound while the car is off, I would think it would work with the tablet setup while the car is on

No, no... aimtimes100 asked if the audio from the tablet would go through the car speakers while the car is off. The answer to that is no. You would only get audio through the speakers while the ignition is switched on.

On a separate note, yes all 5 speakers plus the sub woofer would have audio coming through them if you hook into the satellite radio input like the OP did. But I don't think the headphone jack on the tablet supports true 5.1 surround. It's just stereo: a left and right channel. I was thinking of using just the audio portion of the mini hdmi port to get true 5.1 surround. I still haven't figured out if it's even possible.

Never mind... after looking at a pinout of an HDMI port, it only has a left and right audio channel too. Hopefully the audio receiver in the stock radio is smart enough to make it 5.1 surround.

As far as the back up camera goes, i've seen some posts which seems like people are making progress in that department but has anyone sucessfully done it? If not i did find an alternative, its not the best but its an option. One of those back up camera intergrated with the rear view mirror http://www.amazon.com/Peak-PKC0RG-Re.../dp/B004VJMEEQ

I'm also in the process of adding a reverse camera and although its not the perfect solution I think I can make it work. It's a looxcie Bluetooth camera that is actually ment to be worn on the ear but with some modifications I think anyone with an ipad or android tablet can make it work.

This is the first thing that's gotten me excited in a long time. I may pull out my working navi drive and sell it to partially cover the cost of one of these tablets. They make the car look so much better and are just better in every possible way. My main goals aside from functionality is to keep it looking OEM and I would prefer to stay with an Apple product for music integration. I'm open to anything but with a preference to Apple. My '06 does not have a factory backup camera so while it would be nice it's not mandatory to have a reverse camera.

I've seen the mini and it looks good but it looked like the trim had to be cut. Is there anything that might work for me without visible mods? Anyone want a perfectly working OEM navi drive cheap? Any help would be greatly appreciated, this is not my area of expertise. I need to replace a bunch of burned out lights anyway so the sooner the better.

I won a Galaxy Tab 2 Verizon LTE version on eBay for $260, and here's links to all the other items I ordered:
I have not done the install yet, I'm still waiting on some items to be delivered.

hey buddy sorry to dissapoint you but if you will connect that 30 pin to usb host adapter, you wont be able to charge your tab... you can either use the usb hub or just charging wire. if you want to use both, you gotta create custom 30 pin layout plug (thats what i did), read it earlier in this thread

I wasn't sure if the tab charged via the usb port or a regular old a/c adapter. I was waiting until I got it in the mail to figure that one out. Thanks for clarifing! Now I know why you had to use the 30-pin breakout. I can still use the that OTG host adapter, I'll just cut the 30-pin end off it and solder the wires to the breakout. Thanks!

and make sure to get the 5v 2100mA car USB charger, otherwise any other car usb charger wont handle to charger the big tablet battery

Awesome Job. This is my inspiration. Is it possible to remove the Nav screen, and keep all the climate control functions? My screen/Nav isnt working, so its not worth relocating for me. Do you think its possible just to remove the screen, and slip in a table in place?

Nope...just remove the screen but leave all the circuit boards.

I'm also leaning towards the nexus 7 because of the dedicated GPS chip. Originally wanted to do with an ipad mini, but the mini doesn't really have a true GPS. I'm looking forward to any pics you post.

how is the gps on the nexus 7? I'm working on my acer iconia and thinking of switching out to a diff tablet that has better gps. Might even sell my finished product to work on nexus 7 if that runs better.

I've been driving around with it the last couple of days as a stand alone unit, not installed into the dash yet. It's working great. This is my first andriod from a long time iphone/apple iOS user and I'm very happy so far

Is there any need to keep the navigation screen if I want to replace it with nexus 7? Can I hook the tablet up to something like iSimple and be done with it?

The only reason I can think of are.
1. Losing back up camera if you have 07/08
2. Deleting those annoying "fule cap loose" and other dianostic messages.

I was hoping an obdii that are for 12 bucks with the android app will be able to clear those . Else, it seems like its only one cable to the monitor, and when youre in a pinch to clear those measages, you can just pop the air vent and connect your screen to do whatever you need without having to tear the dash apart.

Anyone else chime in?

hey guys,

i was hoping somebody could shed some light on 2 problems i'm having. first, let me explain my setup (pics are on page 2 of this thread). i have the acer a100 in-dash setup, audio is routed via aux to an iSimple ipod integration unit. i have my ipod set as disc 7 and my tablet set as disc 8. power is ran by a simple acer car charger i bought off ebay (i think). so here's my problem - everytime i'm listen to music on the tablet and i hit a bump or brake or anything, i get a loud crackling sound through the speakers and then the HU automatically switches to disc 7 (ipod). i usually have to wait for a second or 2 until i can switch it back to the tablet, and then the same thing happens over and over...i also noticed today that if i hit the top left corner over the bezel/tablet, it will automatically switch to disc 7 as well...very frustrating!! any help shedding light on this matter would be greatly appreciated.
