Amp problem

So i bought an alpine mrp500 with a hertz subwoofer EBR2504. the installation was made by a technician. yesterday it was pretty hot out there and i put my music level at 35 and out of nowhere, the subwoofer stopped working.I turn off the ignition and re start the car and everything seems working fine. Yesterday night,i was listening to my music at level 40 but with the subwoofer at middle. the same problem happened again. I parked the car and opened the trunk and there was a smell of smoke and the amp was really really hot. i turn off the car,re start it again and now if i pass level 15 or 20, the amp stop working. What do you think it's the problem?! i wanted to go check the technician from where i bought the amp and the sub but they are close!! what can i do guys?!

It really sounds like your amp is overheating. If you are pounding down the street with an inefficient sub this will be a reoccurring problem. Really there are a lot of different reasons that would cause this. Bad Ground, Small Power Wire. Bad Termination and the list goes on. If you are smelling smoke try and isolate the smell. If it is coming from the Sub then you might have a bad sub or a bad sub/amp combo. If it is coming from the amp then look into wiring issues.

Hope this helps..

I have the same amp as you do, it should never get very hot. I would suggest you go back and tell them to redue it. I have never heard of this subwoofer personally.

It is getting too hot! Where you have it mounted, is it getting air on the sides and under it? Sometimes mounting the amp off the carpet and keeping it in a place where it has a place to get circulation is all you need. You can also mount an external amp fan to keep it cool. My sub amp will get hot and shut down on really hot days after an hour or so of playing the music loud. I bought the amp fan but never bothered. Instead, I bit the bullet and went with an Alpine PDX digital amp. You can mount the thing anywhere and it doesn't produce any heat.
