all you JL junkies please chime in.
so here i am,after almost 3 years of no sound systems,i think im ready to look into buying a simple setup. i want to get either a 10 or 12 inch sub,for the corner of the trunk to keep as much space in the trunk as i can,and im a deep bass kind of person,i prefer low tone bass and not to much the boom boom boom crap..if u kind of understand what i want.
i need:
bass knob
amp
sub,
and any other things to make it fit the stock sterio with no delay to sound.
i dont want anything crazy but i want JL cause of the quality and sound ive heard.
anything suggestions of models of each item?
also,i have an absolute limit of 800$ (is this possible with JL?).
not that i cant afford more, but because i dont need a system bad enough to spend $1K+

contact UNCALD4, he makes boxes that fit in the side of the trunk. I think its 300 for a box, and its custom made for a sub. Ask him for his recommendation. Also JL isn't the only brand out there for good subs, look at other ones like MTX, Elemental Designs, etc.

12W6 for SQ. Though I agree that you might not be able to get everything from JL under your budget.
I will probably be getting a new in box 12W7 from a friend that owes me a lot of money. I would be willing to sell it for less than a 12W6 but I don't want to promise anything until I actually have it.

well i wasnt including the box in my 800$ budget, and if i have to i might be willing to spend a lil more to get the jl stuff...like i said, the budget is just a preference since im not all gun-ho about systems, plus i have a 2 yr old in the back.

Delta, I'm glad to see you're looking into modding your sound system. I was worried because I thought you posted that you were getting bored with your TL. I was thinking you might bail on it.

i was going to but i decided to stick with it,im going to be modding it this comming year,
new rims,finally a system,new exhaust,finishing aspec,and hopefully supercharching it.
everything but the supercharger is for sure so far.

hes the main reason its been so long since i had a system..and i wont buy anything too crazy for him,i just dont like the stock sub rattling and its just under the strength im looking for. but i want something i can have loud when hes not in the car, hence the bass knob. but i dont need it to be so loud everyone at the stop light can hear.

I think you can get a way with a 12W6 then. You can dial it down when he's in the car. Mine sounds really nice. You can't really hear mine outside my car. The TL is pretty well insulated. Plus, I have Dynamat all over my car.
You need to read through the DIY Install threads to tell you what to do to get sound to the amp. I have one posted myself.

^more than likely im not going to do my own install..i just needed to find out what to buy and take it to the sterio shop.
ill only dynamat my trunk at most. just to keep the rattling down on the outside.

I have Navone Engineering 2-channel Hi-lo converter to a JL e1450D for my sub. It's done well for me. I've had my setup for a year and a half. An audio installer might have different ideas on how to go about it though given what he know about the TL's audio system and his experience. I followed the lead of a couple of TL owners who did it themselves. It all seemed to work out for me.

Thank you for the hit. I'd be happy to toss out my two cents. Custom enclosures start at $250 so it would definitely fit into the $800 budget.
Thanks homie. Gotta respect the mods though. As a paying vendor the rules help me more than they hurt me. I've been playing with all the new shallow mount subs. I was not a fan when Pioneer released their version a few years ago. However.... things have changed and it's a whole new game.

+1 on Uncald4's boxes. I have a 10w3v3 and the SQ is excellent, and it still shakes the car when I need it to. You might even want to look at his new 8w design - comes pre-loaded with the sub IIRC. Add a good amp, LOC and install and I think you can def. come in under 8.
Now that you're gonna do it, do it right. Don't cut corners with a shoddy installer or questionable gear. Take it from me, do it right the first time and you'll end up paying less in the long run.

I've had a JL 12w6v2 in my trunk for a few months now and I'm thoroughly satisfied. It picks up the low tones very well, and to my surprise, it can really handle the volume. I'd recommend this sub over any other.
In case you're wondering, I'm pushing it with an Alpine PDX 1.600.

Extremely happy with my JLA components
I'm lovin' my 10W3V3-2 in uncald4's custom enclosure, powered by a JL Audio G1300. Front and rears are pushed by a JL Audio G4500 and the combination works really well ... sound quality is clean and unobtrusive, just the way I wanted it

i dont need a system that bad lol,i could just go a lil cheaper on the sub/amp,i dont HAVE to go JL but the knob is a must, and quality is a must. also, the box dosent have to have CF if it makes it much cheaper.

Correct.
No need for Cleansweep. I PM'd you with alternative's.

if i wanted to,could i replace all my stock speakers with aftermarket ones, but not run an external amp? or will having aftermarket speakers ruin the amp or not be powerful enough to run them?
im happy with how loud the stock system is,i just dont like how sometimes they rattle or sound a little distorted at high vol
