Aftermartket head unit install? '04 TL

Im very new to the acura TL. I just bought a 2004 Acura TL. I have a 05 SRT4 as well (built just for the track). while i had the SRT I bought a really nice indash DvD player TV. Now ive been trying to find people who have installed aftermarket units in the car and cant seem to find many. I was wondering if anyone made dash kits to fill in the gaps the taking the stock stereo out would create.

Most people tend to be putting in the navi, which would be nice, if i didnt already have a pretty nice setup already. Plus if i installed this radio it has RCA jacks which would make the subs that i want to transfer from the SRT as well, sound better.

Any word of advice?

Aftermaket HU in a 04 TL -->

Why would you want 2 do that?

If you're doing this, you need to know that you'll loose your Hands Free Link (bluetooth), and you'll have an unused LCD display on your dash.

Look for a CarPc install, this is the right choice IMO or simply go for a NAVI conversion.

Good luck! Keep us updated.

imo i would go for a navi system if i were to swap out my factory for aftermarket, but then just like vmt said, u lose functionality of the hfl and the lcd screen... so it would just sit there doing nuthin'. i have a system in mine (2 12"s) but i kept my factory radio and the sound quality is great. sometimes its better to keep the factory radio anyway, imo. because ur aftermarket might not control some of ur speakers (mids), but hey whatever floats ur boat, its ur car...

Ive been thinking about doing something similar, some of the new double din head units with navigation also have bluetooth so you would still have the hands free, just not controlled through the steering wheel. noone makes a dash kit that Im aware of so you would have to have one made up. I have a local shop that only works with carbon fibre, I was thinking that I would have them make up a dash kit for it, then also have them take the two aluminum trim pieces and fill in the two half circles for the radio knobs and cover the entire trim piece in cf.

Well first question is did yours come with stock navi? if it did, then best bet is to keep that, transition over to carPC, if your worried about the "quality" a LOC does suffice just for bass, but if you want you can get a 3Sixty from RF its AWESOME. You get the 3Sixty.two then you can use a PDA via Bluetooth to adjust it and what not. Plus a pop out unit on the TL is Blahh, not all that great, cuz it ruins the flow of the console

I don't know why you guys would like to modify this "perfect" style dash...those volume buttons as so much to do with the interior ambiance...

guess every taste are in the nature

the reason i want to do this is because i wanna be able to have the TV in my vehicle.. again im completely new to the TL and used to other cars were its a very easy swap to put in a radio..

also i am stripping the SRT as its going to be a track only car.. so this radio would be going to waste..

im not worried about using blue tooth.. now the lcd screen would still be lit up for the tempature controls and stuff wouldnt it?

Yes it would. If you want to have a good looking setup, just do this:
1.Relocate factory screen down to the two flippy compartments
2. Buy a frame for the navi screen and cut it up so you can fit a good screen in it.
3. Put the DVD player in either the rear armrest or in the glovebox or in the center console
4. hook up dvd player to screen.
5. Output audio to factory HU using USA SPEC HON2Y or DICE adapter.
6. looks factory and nice, plus you retain all your controls.

The factory HU is very good for a factory HU, My recommendation for a good sound system is this:

1. Take the signal after the factory AMP and lead to your audio processor like 3.sixty or JL cleansweep ( if you do not wish to use an audio processor, plug the signal into the HIGH input of the AMP).
2. Take the signal from JL cleansweep or 3.sixty to your Amps.
3. Take signal from amps to new speakers.
4. For the sub, disconnect the factory one and you can buy a box from UNCLAD4 on the forums that will fit in the side of the trunk.

Darn 5 minute rule...

No one makes a dash kit for the TL as the system is complex and also the two silver strips make a problem. Your best bet would be to sell the current in-dash dvd player and to get yourself a good system made. To do the above setup this it what it would cost about, but this is just to get video in the car with audio, no audio overhaul:
$110 for USA SPEC HON2Y
$200 for screen
$50 for DVD player
$100 for wires/cables
$460 TOTAL

The audio overhaul will cost depending on the components used.

I had the JL cleansweep, amps and everything mention above. I finally did what i really wanted and changed the unit. I couldn't be happier with the sound quality and user interface that comes with an aftermarket double din. The factory bluetooth and navigation is out dated and simple. check out the install. not bad.
