Aftermarket Navigation Install

I recently bought an AVIC-Z1 and want to install it in my 2004 TL w/no Nav. They are trying to charge me 250 at a shop and want to install it on the part where the radio is. I want to put it where the screen is and was wondering if anyone can help me with this. I think i would need to buy the AC LCD that goes up top on the Dash part to do so. I plan on putting a system in this summer also. Can anyone refer me to someone who can do this job for me? Or if anyone can create a custom kit and i will buy it from them and help me with the install part please let me know asap.

the pio is a sweet unit .. unfortunately there are no good double din kits for the TL, the only place to really put it is where the OEM stereo is but you'll always have those semi-circular cut outs in the aluminum trim.

It'll be very challenging to put the unit where the current radio screen is .. as this has not been customized by any yet with a doubledin unit like the pioneer. members on this forum have installed aftermarket LCDs in that space, but they have linked it to car-puters that have navi installed on them and gone about it that way. They then moved the radioscreen down to where the two latched compartments are in the center console at the base by the gear shifter. It's a lot of customizing, but your specific concern has never been addressed by anyone on this site in a way that had a good outcome.

Best of luck

Where Hvac has limited space so, any double din cannot be installed except LCD screen that is why many ppl goes to CAR PC which isn't bad at all.
My suggest is that, if you can return pioneer then consider carputer.

this is where my car pc installed on my 04 TL non navi. and I made nice peice of wood cover that fits on the Hvac display (not showing on the picture).

those trim pieces were customized by CS-SuperchargedTL's buddy at a custom shop. it's the best ddin job i've seen in the TL so far... no significant gaps

theres really no "huge" market for em except for a few of use that decided to go aftermarket with the radio. But it would be cool to see a few small things come out for a "just in case" job that comes around. it looks good though In mine i left the holes because i wanted the AVIC to breathe it has an overheating issue in the z1 and 2 and 3 that id rather avoid, they even made a patch for it..but i dont see how the patch can cut down heat.

You will not regret removing the factory tape player and get the unit you want. Current technology is much better, especially if you have and ipod with video.

I like how you have your set up in your TL peterUbers and TripnBeats. Is that the original navigation or and aftermarket monitor in the navigatiion area. If it is the originial how did you hook it up to the radio and what type of radio should i get to do that.. Does it need to be a dual out up behind the unit..If not what size monitor did you buy thanks for the help appreciate it

im thinking about doing this same setup with my car. my question is, do you loose the factory navi when you install the aftermarket double/nav? i really just want the radio for the SQ. dont really care about the other features.
