Cool Double din kit for TL $350 !!!!

Hey Az

I recently underwent the task of installing the new pioneer z120bt in my 06 TL..... Having previous knowledge and MECP advance training.... ......the install went in with no problem..... Sounds great also..... Now being a little lazy I decided to take it to a local shop to get a dash kit made..... Not to my surprise I wanted to slap the guy behind the counter when he told me that the kit will cost me "" around "" $350 bucks....... ..... I then decided to go to my local autozone and make my own dash kit...... One problem..... Does anyone know how to make a dash kit..... So yes any help would be greatly appreciated...... I know how to fiberglass and bondo and what not but since this is my baby I want her to be perfect ...... Thanks again

It always amazes me that people are freaked out by the cost of this stuff. Do you want him to do it for free? Or do you want a guy who makes minimum wage custom fabricating your dash kit?
Our labor rate is $80/hr. We have ASE and MECP trained guys w/ at least 10+ yrs or experience each. They could all fab up a kit, but to make it look good, be sturdy, and be something that we would warranty and will still look good 2 years from now I would estimate 4-5 hours of working time...or $320-$400 in labor.

Any time you put "custom" in front of anything be prepared to spend $$ to get what you want.

And sure, I know how to make a dash kit. Mount the radio, mock up a frame to fill the big gaps, put it all back together, mask the area, fill up to the edges in the dash with filler so it looks good, sand, prime, sand more, paint, sand, paint, sand, clear, re-assemble.

Nope. I'd charge more. 1) I'm not as fast as my techs 2) I have no desire to do it I'm not even motivated to do it to my own car.

with all that mecp know how it should be pretty easy for you... what i did for my friends double din tl kit was use a GM double din kid and used a dodge charger kit and molded the corners(from the charger into the gm kit). took about 6hrs total to mold and prep and used texture spray and paint.
