Aftermarket Audio Install With Pics

I guess I posted on the wrong thread earlier so here tis again.

Well some of my first mods have been complete. I figured I'd start with the TL sound system, which sounded amazing, but I need a bit more a$$ with my music so here tis.

1. Replaced front speakers with JL Audio XR series component set.
2. Replaced rear 6" speakers with JL Audio.
3. Installed (or the shop did) JL audio OEM clean sweep for direct IPOD hookup.
4. MB Quart 12 Inch Sub
5. JL audio 500/5 AMP.

I must say I'm happy as a clam.

OEM Clean Sweep

Sub 1

Sub 2

Sub 3

Amp

Quick question... did you leave the center channel stock? And are you amping it from the stock amp?

Other question. The cleansweep only does 4 channels right? Can you set the volume of the cleansweep using their volume control and then pretty much do most volume adjusting with the head unit control?

The center is still stock. To be honese I dont ever know if they left it hooked up. Unless you play a 5.1 encoded CD, it will never be used. Most (actually all) of my music is not.

I use the head unit for all volume control. I still use the casette adapter for the IPOD. If I use the IPOD interface for the clean sweep, the volume is controlled using the clean sweep.

Oh so the only purpose of the volume control knob on the clean sweep is when using the AUX input on the unit? OK makes sense... thanks for the info.

What about the sub, where did they get the signal for it? Straight from the sub in the trunk and then they installed some kind of line-level converter?

Zax,

The factory sub is "off" also. the sub signal comes directly from the AMP. I could turn the factory sub back on, but im not sure how the two would sound "competing" with each other.

thats a nice clean trunk set up...i really like it...i was gonna do something like that but im gonna eventually do 2 10" or 2 12" subs on the sides where the wheel wells are so it acts as bandpass and angle it towards the back for that big ole boom....

do u mind if i ask how much u paid for the trunk set up? not the replacement of all the speakers, just the sub.

also...whats the little light above the knob for?

Untrue, I thought the center would only work on surrouns music, but it works on stereo sounds as well to help image the front stage tremendously. I was going to go with the clean sweep and cancel the center, till I found out what it sounded like w/o, and decided to integrate around the center, and keep it for front stage fill.

I have an almost identical rear wall, with a carpet that matches factory. I paid $325 for my box, and $100 for the wall... I can post pics if anyone really nees to see the same thing. Good looking install!

S$%T. I want my center channel back now! 325 for a box and 100 sounda about right. Guess these shops charge about the same anywhere., especially if its quality work.

Talking Nice

Very nice, clean box install. How is the single sub working out for you? Enough headroom when you need it? Did you take out the factory sub or leave it in? Good job overall.

I hate to revive a 2 month old post. Unfortunately, I couldn't send a PM to lilvinnyb.

What I'd like to know is...

- Do you have any pics of how you placed the amp against the rear seat.

Also, can you tell me how much trunk space your setup takes?

- Also, where did you get the wall that you mounted your subwoofer in.

- Are you using your center speaker still?

- Does your HFL still work?

I can answer some of this.....with the cleansweep the HFL does work! You can turn the center and sub off from the acura head unit. The HFL will remain operational.

For those that say the center adds image - I think that couldn't be farther from the truth. If you listen to competition sound quality cars - very few have centers and most have the front stage speakers mounted in the kick panels without much space between the tweets and mids. Just my .02 and why I converted to coaxes.

Thanks for the info . I suppose I'll begin attempting this upgrade. I'd like to know more about the trunk set up. What type of enclosure is behind the sub wall? What are the dimensions? What is the sub wall made of?

Thanks again.

guys... that box is very easy to build... i would assume that it is a simply rectangle sealed box (total cost of about 40 bucks and about two hours of time if you have a nail gun) and a "beauty" panel (which, if you buy one 4x8 sheet of mdf for the box you should have enough left over to make the panel)... again, this is all considering if you have the right tools: table saw, nail gun, jig saw and patience... if you dont, then dont try this... if any of you live in the South Carolina region i can build you one of these boxes for about 150...

Im not sure why you could not PM me. Ive received dozens from others.

1. The amp sits on the rear of the box, which is set back against the seat (about 1 inch off).

2. This setup hardly takes up any trunk space. I told the installer that I wanted to keep as much as possible. I went to the parents house with 3 parge bags, one suitcase and several smaller bags in the trunk.

3. The "wall" is simply mounted against the box in the rear.

4. Center channel is off as all sound passes through the clean sweep.

5. Whats HFL.

Just an FYI that I did not do the install myself.
