Add Navi Later?
Add Navi Later?
Has anyone without the Nav system decided to add it later? Can you get the factory model installed later? If so, any idea about cost?
I think I regret not getting it.......

It "may" be possible but no one have done it, and will definitely cost a lot for installation and wiring. As I always say while this topic is bringing up: trade in your non-navi and get a navi, or live with it. I don't have navi, and I am ok with that because I don't need it. But I admit it's a cool feature on TL.
I have one suggestion. Spending your $2000+ for buying a labtop, a GPS kit for labtop, and an labtop car changer (without using one come which come with your labtop). It may be save you some headache. It is better the 4" screen GPS and there is a lot of map software which is able do to everything as the TL Nav. Beside that you can use your labtop for other things. The downside is you need to connect all the stuffs when you using it and find a good place to put the labtop while you are driving
I recommend the Acura Navi for the improved screen, yellow pages (on the navi disc), and times that I use the navigation capabilities (and it is pretty often).
Um... and what is a labtop? Shouldn't that be laPtop ?

Plus, any aftermarket add-on system won't give you voice-activation or solar-sensing climate control. Kind of makes the OEM navi look like a bargain...and you don't have the "labtop" cable labyrinth running around your car or taking up your passenger seat. Just wait till your first emergency braking incident to see how smart that solution is!
First off, don't forget that even without the Navi, you have got an outstanding vehicle. While I am personally happy I chose to go with the Navi, I don't see how the difference would ever warrant trading in a non-Navi to get the Navi. With the depreciation hit along with the increased cost of the Nav TL, you are easily into something exceeding $5 or 6K. Similarly, I have not heard of any successful conversions. Even if they were possible, you are still looking at serious $'s.
If you really need the functionality of the nav unit, consider some of the excellent stand alone aftermarket GPS units or even ones that work in conjuction with a laptop. You are out the door for less than $2k. It is my understanding that some of these also have voice commands. While you won't be getting the other TL Navi functions such as voice commands of hvac or audio system, you will still have something that would do a great job of helping you get where you want to go.

I've used Garmin aftermarket units in BMWs and Infinitis, and came away unimpressed. Beyond the inferior reception (long satellite take-up) and slower performance than built-in units, they can get expensive and can be a theft issue (if you don't completely remove the cradle).

Tried All Options With Dealer For Nav After Purchase. Factory Rep Was There And Said It Could Not Be Done. However I Kept My Garmin Street Piolt And Installed It, Outside Of Being Ugly It's Very Effective.

The Garmin StreetPilot 2610 is a great GPS solution for about $750 from Amazon (where I got mine). We use that in our non-Navi MDX, and I like it as well as my TL Navi system, especially since it is portable. The thing I like the MOST is that I can update the maps and software easily for free (as opposed to $200 or so for updated TL DVDs).
If it was me....
If it was me.. I would trade in my Non Navi fvor a Navi TL.
I would take the 5 or 6k hit and just it the bullet. I have blown more than that on stupid crap in my life, whats 5 or 6k more..
I could be hit by a bus tommorow. i would regret dieing without EVER owning the navi TL.
