Accessing antenna without pulling everything apart?
Accessing antenna without pulling everything apart?
Here's the situation: car as listed in sig. Already have the PXAMG hooked up on the driver's side footwell. Would like to add the HDRT, but I'm not too keen on pulling everything apart to get to the antenna - especially if I don't like the interface or the quality.
Now, it's been said that there's a connection I could get to besides the back of the unit - specifically, under the glove box. Anyone have any pictures or diagrams of how to get at it, if it exists? When I pulled off the foot cover and outside panel, I didn't see it.
I also assume that the antenna plug is on the passenger lower side of the head unit. I can put my finger on it and the wire, but I can't get it out. Does it have a locking nut on it? Or am I not getting enough leverage?
If I have to take off panels, I'd like them to be minimal - I don't have the time to get into taking apart half the dash. At least not for awhile.
Thanks.

I can't comment on an alternate location to get at it but you're right about the location on the head unit. If you just pull off the passenger side kick panel you can get you fingers in there enough to release the spring lock and pull the plug off. I have heard that some TL's have the old style RF plug and others (like mine) have a newer two wire connector. Just be aware that you may need to buy some type of adapter or Y cable.
In my experience, I've always had to remove the passenger paneling to get to the antenna behind the headunit.
I've installed an hdrt. I bought a y-adapter like this one: http://www.amazon.com/METRA-Ltd-40-U.../dp/B0002EXF10 from crutchfield so that I can have the hdrt and oem am/fm. I have an 06 base TL.

It's not bad.
My favorite stations don't broadcast in HD.
Makes a BIG difference in HD AM broadcasts, not as much for HD FM.
Theoretically, your signal strength is halved when you use a splitter. I thought the OEM FM reception was a little better than regular FM reception from the HDRT.
You can save stations into the memory of the HDRT, but they will not be displayed on the screen. You'll have to remember what stations you saved to the 1-6 presets.

I wouldn't necessarily say louder. Cleaner.
If my son stops crying, I'll try to take some pics. Even if it's through my iPhone.
EDIT - when I get the pics up, I'll post a new review thread.
