2009 Navigation Update DVDs released!
so you upgraded.. got the error, then just ejected the dvd and reinserted and it began working?
I just got my update and only part of 130 Toll Road is on the disc. It stops at at HWY 290, so it does not continue all the way to the Austin Airport. Still good since my home address is now on the Navigation. Woo Hoo! My car can get home now. (Not like I need it to tell me where I live though...)

To charge the kinds of $$$ they're asking for updates whether you need a '04/5/6 DVD or an '07/8 DVD is highway robbery. And if they had any brains, they'd drop the prices to well under $100 for both versions and sell the heck out of them. They obviously haven't waken up to the economic state of affairs going on right now. The guys at Acura of Ramsey tell me new car sales are off a whopping 70%.

Alpine
As I said in previous post here, if someone can successsfully make a copy of a 3.71 or 3.8 Orange DVD, I'll make it worth their while.
I don't believe you can copy the orange discs. I did a lot of research and no one was ever able to burn it. IT uses the PTP (Parallel track path) vs, I think OTP which you can copy. I think with PTP it burns from the outside in on the first path and then inside out on the second path, or something like that. It has been a while since I researched it. I do know that you need special media to burn and probably a special burner. I also don't understand all the Torrents you can find on the internet for the orange discs since they won't burn either...why are people bothering? And I also agree, Alpine is ripping people off on the price of the new discs. They know they have you and they don't care.
that is true, I made and ISO of my current orange disk but it would not work in the car. So copying it really does no good. Bottom line, if your copy does not play it is like not copying it at all, you just made a nice DVD coaster!
And to Skrewologist's point, I do not know why all movies are not made that way, must be more expensive to produce is all I could guess. Many more movies are made than people who what orange Acura disks.

Movies cost $10-30, Nav disc costs close to $200. They can afford the extra & costly protection.
Try this.
If it works please let me know. I think several of us could more than make up for your spending of the $200.
1) Make or obtain an ISO of the disk. DVD Decrypter works fine. I'm sure the others do also. Set the ISO program to stop on an error. Don't try to fix it, don't ignore it, start over. There is no copy protection or other BS on the disc. There should be no errors.
2) As long as your DVD writerallows the book type to be changed it should work. I've used an older NEC IDE 3500AG drive and a newer Samsung sh-203B SATA drive with identical results. Both have up to date firmware.
3) Use Nero 9, setting the Book Type to DVD rom and burn the ISO. Use verify to confirm a good burn. You don't have to change any of the other default settings.
4) Burn using a Sony or Verbatim DVD+R DL 2.4 disc. Memorex and Ritek are a waste of time and money for this purpose. Fuji's may work but they're not consistent. A burned Fuji disc may work today but show a read error tomorrow.
I'm convinced the difference is in the dyes used by the disc manufacturers. The RB1 just can't read some brands due to their reflectivity.

And me likewise. I even had a guy that was selling copies he made of other navigation discs send me one for free to see if it worked since he did not have that type of car and he wanted to market these. He had been successful selling other navigations disc copies. Nonetheless, the copy he sent did not work and I think he basically gave up.
I finally was able to afford a '07 TL-S and was hoping I'd find some information on hacking the NAVI and such and come to find out.... it's at a stand still
. I hope someone smart enough will do what it takes to make this version work
. Till then, i'll be waiting.
I rarely use the NAV, but when I do, I don't expect to spend 200 dollars for an updated one :/ after all, I already spent the 30K for the car that depreciates every day.

Frankly speaking, the DVD upgrade shouldn't cost that much... Alpine should think out of the box, the more expensive they charge, people would probably bail and try to hack it or just buy a third party GPS unit, like TomTom or Garmin, I personally like TomTom better.
They (TomTom and Garmin) are way more useful...
I know paying US$ 200.00 for an upgrade to a system that's integrated to our car, would be kinda too much... even our car has an integrated system.
So, I would strongly suggest that Acurazine Moderator help the whole Acurazine community and contact Alpine and set up a group buy.
US$ 99.00 + TAX and Shipping would be the minimum. That'll be like 50% off.
If possible US$ 49.99 + TAX & Shipping this would be ultimate ideal. And make it yearly update, but real update to maps, POI, and etc.
Even if it possible update the maps quality.
I believe a yearly 49.99 update would be more business for Alpine than almost none-at-all. Seriously how many of you guys have actually spend almost 200 bucks updating your DVD?
I'm sure there are hundreds or even thousands of Acura owners that might strongly consider buying the upgrade, as long as it's reasonable.
I'm sure there are like thousands of 3G TL with Navigation all over the US.
What do you guys think?

to be honest.....it was a rush decision.....thats what i get for being impatient....at the time i did notice the "please check disk" when i asked him the guy had mentioned something about "yea i have the disk its in the office" but when i picked up the car....it still wasnt there... so he said he would order it for me...and i got tied up with work factor in my laziness.....i did place a few calls.....but after a while i got tried and said f**k it.....again my d******s shouldnt have left the lot without the headrest or dvd. oh well shit happens.....
bringing this thread back. my 2007 Type S was purchased in April 2007 with 4.56a software on the NAV. at that time, the maps were already 3+ years out of date. the streets for my neighborhood were not there, and a local airport was still showing after it had long become a nighborhood. my garmin handheld was nuts on accurate the day i bought it. so, why is alpine 3 years behind in their maps? there is no excuse for that. i think they want to stay behind as a marketing tool to sell upgrades. i have seen this list of "supposed" additions to newer versions. what i want to know is if my actual street is on 4.73. how can i find that information. anybody with 4.73 want to look on their NAV system for my house?
thanks
thanks
Honestly, I hate the factory navi. Only reason I have it is because I couldn't get the type s without the navi.
$150 to upgrade is just silly. If i'm at a location where I can't search for any POI, I just use my cell phone's GPS. 90% of the time, the POI database on the cell phone that uses the carrier's network GPS is more updated then my car. It costs $10 a month, still cheaper for one year then having to pay $150.
Eventually when the database is outdated enough, I will just go buy a NEW portable GPS unit from Tomtom, Garmin, etc and I am 99% sure that I can spend 120 bucks on a NEW gps with the current year map and poi.
What's the price point I am willing to buy it from Alpline / Acura? $50 bucks. But I can keep on dreaming.

The NAVI completes the car. I have had both non NAVI and NAVI and would never get a non NAVI again. But with that said, I love the Garmin portables and wish the Acura NAVI had a few features that Garmin has.
There are 10 things I really like with the Acura NAVI and there are 10 things I really like with the Garmin. Unfortunately the 10 in one are not the same 10 in the other.
Garmin and Alpine need to look at each others NAVI and combine some of the best and most useful features from both.

Does anyone know how "current" the maps are? I live in the Chicago area, where they extended I-355 to I-80, but it doesn't show up on any of the navi units I've seen, including my test drive in a new 09 TL.
TSX Nav dvd offer from Acura for 2009
I just received a notice of an offer to upgrade my 04 TSX to the 2009 dvd for $149.00 I have not upgraded from the original DVD. I did check out the updates and they don't seem to cover the areas I go, so, I"m not sure if I"m going to take the offer, I have until the 31st of july to make my decession.
I'd be happy if someone had a 2007 or 2008 DVD (or a copy there of).
It seems like this thread is mainly TL owners, so hope I didn't but in :-)
Dave
I'm in the Nashville area so if anyone is close let me know.
