2009 Navigation Update DVDs released!

Hope this isn't a duplicate thread

No functionality changes for 04-06 or 07-08 TL's.

Both systems gain new POIs and map data.

04-06 DVDs run $185
07-08 DVDs run $149

(I'm not sure why the 07 - 08s are cheaper.. kinda shitty if you ask me)

$185 is the normal price + shipping; for some reason the 07 - 08 DVDs are discounted to $149, but NOT 04-06 DVDs.

Yea for some reason they have it discounted just for the 07-08's.

https://store.alpine-usa.com/Acuradv.../naviorder.php

Probably to try and entice those with 07-08's to get the dvd. Makes it a little easier for us to upgrade so soon with the price being lower I guess.

Just a note, this is the UPDATE for the maps of the car to 2009 revisions. THIS IS NOT AN UPGRADE TO THE 2009 ACURA TL NAVIGATION SYSTEM THAT IS IN THE 4TH GENERATION TL.

I've been waiting on this too. I'm still on the 2004 map database so I should see a lot more roads and POI's. Kinda crappy that it is not discounted for the 04-06.

There will be new POI's though for everywhere. Thats just new additions of towns if I understand right. Cities and towns that are already on the DVD aren't on that list but those cities and towns will still receive updated POI's.

I was hoping they were going to do the $150 thing for the '04-'06 like they did last year. I am only upgrading every two years and this year is my year to upgrade.

I just got my card today. One of the new updates is "additional traffic information" for XM Traffic subscribers. Does anyone know what it is?

One more thing, will this update DVD fix the DST change-over dates? Currently, I have to manually change the time in March & November.

Damn why no discount for 04-06

I need this though I am still on the 04 version. Whenever I drive to my parents house it says I am driving off road, lol. And the biggest reason, gas station updates
The gas station down the street is a Shell, wait thats not a Shell!

I called and the lady told me that it was a "home office" decision not to offer the orange DVD for sale. She said that they will offer special sales on different DVDs at random, sometimes 4 months after the DVD had already been released. I'm not sure how I feel about that and wondering if I really need the 3.8 DVD since it seems like I waited forever for it to be released or if I will just get the 3.71 from someone else. I also asked if I could get the 3.71 DVD from them for a discount and she said no.

No explanation

Just called Acura to inquire as well, they have no reason for making the new version of the DVD more expensive for owners of older TL models - I will wait, with the economy in a tailspin, they will be marking this down eventually. Too bad, they probably could have moved a good number of units had they introduced promotional pricing for a DVD that is basically 2 weeks away from being out-of-date to begin with. Greedy Alpine....

I just received my 08 4.73 disk. They fixed an error for the on ramp I use daily as it was getting very annoying having the guidance try to send me the wrong way every day. That was worth the $149 fee.
I haven't explored the area much yet but I did notice many of the gas station icons are now correct. Since I got V4.62 with my TL, I needed this upgrade.

Simple marketing they know the newer TL's don't really need the updated DVD's as their current version they have in their units are probably good enough and not worth it to upgrade for most. They hope to sway people by offering them the product cheaper.

Alpine knows us 04-06 owners are in a much more outdated position so they already know we are going to purchase them discounted or not. Take for example this thread I bet more 04-06 owners are interested in these updates then the newer guys.

POI and map data only

You need to buy an 07+ nav system if you want to upgrade the whole interface.

Ok, I just called ACS and asked about the "additional XM Traffic information". She put me on hold for a couple of minutes and then came back. According to her, it just means more regions getting XM Traffic coverage. For example, the Buffalo-Niagara Falls area of New York State. I didn't know it required a DVD update to get the XM Traffic feature to function on your navi for new regions?!?

Now, should I get it for my '07 TL? One thing I've noticed here in the Northeast over the past couple of years is that a lot of gas stations have closed. Two have closed in my area alone and I know of at least 5 in NJ where I travel often. Usually they close because the land is more valuable for residential development. In some cases they're closed when poorly-designed interchanges/ramps (common in the NE) are reconfigured to reduce traffic congestion/accidents and they just happen to be located right next to it. This update may eliminate some of the "phantom gas stations" on my current DVD. Is that along with the other updates worth $150, that's the question.

From what I understand, the two systems are almost totally different and you will have to make the decision if it is worth it after the cost involved. If you are going to rip your stock system out, do a search for carpc or carputer here and see if that is really what you want. You will see the increased functionality with it.

I'd be curious if anyone with a 2005 TL has attempted to use the 4.73 upgrade and had success. Reason I ask is that I'm moving to Hawaii and noticed that it's the only disc with the requiste maps that would work. The people at Acura/apline pretty much have no clue. Thanks for any help.

I received the 2009 dvd update today. First change I noticed is the dst update has been taken care of. You can select for the clock to update either in October or November. Have yet to see what if anything else functionally has changed.

It won't work. You can only use the orange, 3.x discs.

Could you please elaborate on the interface upgrades this disc offers? I have an '08 TL and wasn't aware that the disc updates the interface.

Take a look around and tell us what else you see. I'm still not sure if I will get the 3.80 just yet.

Question.

I have an original disc in my 2005. I see the changes implemented for 2009. Does anyone have a link or an idea to see where the changes from 2005 to present time are.

I live in CT. I don't see any changes. As of now my existing disc had led me to seasonal ferry boats when giving me directions. So in the winter time I have to be conscious of traveling along the CT River, because the directions will lead me to the docks instead of directing on exiting roads.
