So as far as WMA/MP3 it's a complete "don't care" once your iPod is connected. It just makes CDs obsolete and too cumbersome. It leaves all those 6 slots open for some true high-res audio on DVD-A
I guess CD-text is good but I generally already know the info (It's my CD after all), or don't care about that so much when in the car. XM text on the other hand is useful to later identify a song I don't have.
How could you "hate" something so trivial ? (Hate is usually reserved for the EL42's as they thump in the cold and slip in the wet).

One note- iPod doesn't sound that good. I recorded uncompressed WAV files from CD on it, and compared the sound quality iPod vs original CD in the car and on my home system. Both times iPod lost. Not if the MP3 crowd cares about qualit anyway

And, most people are completely lost when it comes to HD video. They just get all glazed over when I tell them their HD channels are not always HD. Duh...what do you mean, it says HD....Yeah, but that old Dukes of Hazard you are watching is SD that, if lucky, has been line-doubled to ED by the DCDi in your equipment (if you weren't too cheap to get it) Then they just say (again) "but it's HD, Comcast wouldn't mislead me"

It just bums me out when people are fooled or hoodwinked into thinking stuff is high quality when it's not.
I have had MP3 capability with CD-Rs on my Pioneer deck on my old BMW and it made me so happy I never missed the old 6-disc changer. I also had a 2006 MB E-class that can read certain DVDs and I was experimenting maybe a way to get it to read MP3s off of a DVD-R but my DVD-R burner on my computer was malfunctioning. Then I totalled the poor car 3 months ago, so I never got around to it.. Now I'm in my '06 TL.
When I 1st heard the Acura TL had DVD-A I thought.....AWESOME!!! That means I could hold 4.7 gigs worth of MP3s on 1 disc!!!! How many damn files is that? Then I learned from this forum 2 months before I bought the TL that it DOESN'T in fact read MP3s. I was pretty disappointed.
So if the new deck has MP3 capabilty does that mean it can read them off DVD-Rs or only CD-Rs? There's a big difference there. It's only something worth talking about if it can do this because even the Chevy Aveo can read MP3s off a CD-R.

I'm more irritated that the 06 doesn't have an aux jack somewhere, so I have to use a stupid tape adapter. But heck, my ipod+tape adapter works and sounds good, and the KUDA mount is terrific, so I don't have that much to complain about really. In the end, I want to spend my energy enjoying my 06 and not worrying too much about what the 07 has that the 06 doesn't. Maybe I missed out on a few new features, but I've been enjoying my TL for almost a year now while the 07 buyers are just now getting their first taste.

True, but as someone noted, having MP3/WMA compatibility allows, at least that's what I think, tag info from the Ipod to be displayed on the TL's stereo system which is a plus.

You MAY be able to read ID3 tags, or at least filenames from burned mp3 CD's if the CD can read CD text.
Apple has something like 80% of the MP3 player market? And of those millons of customers, how many have committed to the copy protected AAC format by buying albums on iTunes? A ton I'm sure. I'm one of then. Not that I like corporate control, but the product works terrific and it just kinda sucked me in. So, my point is, what good does any of this WMA/MP3 playback capability do for the great majority of us? None! No matter what the audio system can decode, most of us are still going to be plugging in an external iPod somehow. An aux jack would certainly help, but none of the rest of this will matter one bit.
No wonder Acura has taken their sweet time adding MP3/WMA. What they really should focus on is a better iPod interface. But I'm not sure what Apple is giving these companies access to.

I think what he's complaining about is that you can put hundreds of MP3's on a CD, as long as the head unit will read them, but since the '06's DVD-A player won't read MP3's, it's a moot point.
He'd like to be able to burn zillions of MP3's on a DVD and play them, but it doesn't work!

Now I'm curious to get a DVD-A and hear what it sounds like since swapping w/ the 07 unit appears to be pointless (although I don't like the appearance of the non-navi area on the 07's compared to the 04's-06's). Speaking of DVD-A, where on earth do you purchase these? I don't have a DVD Burner just yet.

I just bought my TL and I was hoping that I could somehow get a decent price for an '07 for cool features like real time traffic reports, cool mirror turn signals and finally MP3 capable receiver.
Unfortunately, but not disappointed I purchased an '06. I'm hopeful but doubtful that such a firmware upgrade will ever be made to allow for MP3 playback. I know everyone states, iPod connection will work good, but since burning a CD with what you want is so easy and cheap it just works better for me. Besides I can't afford the $200+ cable purchase at the moment.

dampfnudel, I'll give Best Buy a shot first and try "JandR.com" next. Thanks.
