Question 2006 TL navi in an 04

Im new to the forums and a new 2004 acura TL owner. Im glad to be both.

I was offered a 2006 TL navi with install for my 04 for $750 from a friend of a friend. I was wondering, is this unit compatible with my 04? Also how much electrical work is needed? I also was wondering if this is a fair price and how much does it cost to update maps? Your wisdom is very much appreciated, and I greatly thank you for your replies.

$750 for everything!!! That is a killer deal. 04 is compatible with 06.

Electrical work is extensive along with ripping out much of your interior.

Update DVD's are $185 or so.

WOW...my non navi to navi conversion was about $1000 and that is with me doing the labor. That price is rediculously good!! you should really jump on that. An 06 navi will definitly work in an 04 TL, the only issue might be with the HFL since the HFL unit is different in the 04 as opposed to the 05 and 06. It has something to do with the mute for the HFL when the radio is on or something like that.

There are numerous threads on here that include navi conversions if you want to see what the job consists of.

Hello everyone-

After searching the forums I seen the extensive work needed to get this conversion done. I wasnt too sure this guy would be up to the challange and it looks like I might be right. It looks like he was hoping to pop it in but quickly realized the harness issue. He said he would still be able to do it. He also said he would be able to use the antenna already in the car rather then the gps antenna...dumb question but is this possible? Also he said that he wouldnt need to run any harnesses to the rear since the dvd is aftermarket (which I figure I can do later). Lastly, he doesnt plan on installing the button on the steeting wheel for the voice recognition.

My question to those with more wisdom that me, is all this possible to get the navi up and running? Im not too hung up on the voice command issue but as far as the electrical and navi are concerned, will this install be successful?

Thank you again

yeah none of that seems possible. your better off getting cheaper prices on the parts and get the harness from Martin and you will be good to go with the conversion. i did it myself in 4 hours so if you get help you can do it faster. it really isnt that hard.

Thanks for the replys guys. Ill keep you updated on what I end up doing. I have a couple other things that need attention on the car to keep me occupied while I figure out what to do.
I checked ebay to see what price range I should try to get him down to and found them as high as 1700 and as low as 425 (navi and hd) I know I can for sure talk him down from the original 750, maddsiick, how much did you pay for your navi and hd?

dvd unit and sub display - 350 w/ disc
screen - 250
wire harness and miscellaneous little things from martin - 450

took about 2 months to find the right prices for the parts and the deals though, patience is the key to saving money while doing this project.
