Driving along yesterday my Navi rebooted itself whilst on a long highway drive, thought nothing of it because it's done this a few times a year and no issues were seen. This time it reboots but doesn't fully display the "I Agree" message page of the Navi and just went black. I thought about shutting the car off and turning it back on but I was highway driving and didn't want to stop. Come 1.5 hours later at my destination I turn the car off and back on and the nav screen now shows a checkerboard picture that refreshes itself every 3 seconds or so (see pic).
Navi DVD is fine, and the drive in the trunk still works. My radio input is stuck on the last used "mode" which is an XM Aux input by one of those "GROM" adapters that the PO installed (has never given me issues). This input still works and I can still play music through Aux. The above screen doesn't display radio information anymore and I can't tune the treble, bass, sub, etc etc anymore. The "tune" knob still works but no information is displayed above on the small screen when I do so, but I can change treble, bass and such. I am unable to change inputs. I can't change the time lol. All buttons around the screen work.
Fuses 7 and 32 are good. DVD drive works, last used radio input used works. Removing the 2 fuses and also disconnecting the car battery didn't help. Radio didn't ask for a code when I reconnected the battery as if it saved the settings and the last used radio input. Removing the console and everything is a huge pain so hopefully I don't have to do this!

Reason: Added information
Try removing and re-installing the DVD disc in the player. It's located in your trunk on the right side.
I removed the whole radio/Navi screen unit and took apart the entire Navigation screen unit and everything seemed fine. The main board, the daughter board that kinda rests on top of it, the screen, etc etc. All solder points and little components inside looked really good.
I tried doing the "force screen start" procedure as stated in the factory service manual but it doesn't help. Ejecting the disk in and out as the car is powered on doesn't change a thing either.
But yes, I just removed the Navi disk unit just now and I mean it all seems well? Not exactly sure what to look for lol, and I don't want to take this thing apart either! I don't ever hear the disk spinning if I insert the disk, but I'm not sure if it's supposed to be spinning all the time.
I'll just go ahead and plug it all back in.
Plugged the navi unit back in in the trunk and now it flashes rapidly about 8 times a second with the same pattern. The hyper flashing ensues once both connector A and connector C are connected together. The other connectors don't make a difference. I'll try to backpin and read the voltages and resistances according to spec and see what I find.
I hate to bring back a dead thread but this is the only place I've seen with my issue. Did you end up fixing the issue? and How?
All good and happy to help with the weird issues my TL had during ownership.
Bought a new (used) screen unit and trunk unit off of eBay, didn't fix my issue and displayed a black screen. Though in the listing they were for sure working. Any combo of the original screen/nav player and used units did not fix anything.
So that was disappointing bc it seemed like this was the fix for most people. If you do want to do this, make sure you're able to get the unlock code for the used units you buy.
I emailed out to Alpine who makes the unit - servicerepair@alpine-usa.com writing my issue. I'm attaching pictures of what I sent and what they replied with.
Whole repair w/ shipping was about 14 days. Not sure if this repair is still $358.00 + $50.00 diag lol, but I know like a year before I had my issue the fee was something like $200.00.
I mailed my nav drive unit with the disk (at their request), along with a note about the EXACT issue I was having, and they shipped it back once repaired and paid.
It looks like a hardware problem with the screen or the Navi unit itself. If the fuses and the battery have not changed anything, maybe try a deeper reset by unplugging the DVD Navi for a few minutes? Otherwise, has anyone here ever had this problem and found a solution without disassembling the entire dashboard?

In my fix & this thread I made years ago, my issue was the navi drive itself as stated in the reply above yours.
Doing this fix didn't involve the dash to come apart, but it took me a bit to come to that conclusion, and multiple screen removals (that I didn't need to do).
