2005 Acura TL - No audio...

Greetings,

I have a 2005 Acura TL with the ELS surround sound and navigation. I wanted some extra oomph and had the techs (Best Buy) install a 350w Rockford amp, box with two 10 subs and the RCA converter kit that was needed to install it in the car.

I've had it since Feb--no issues what so ever. Crusing to work Tuesday and flipping CDs, the audio completely cuts out in the entire car. The nav system still works but no audio. What is odd is that if you start the car, you get about 10-15 seconds of radio or XM radio feed and you then hear a thud. Then.. no audio. Within that 15 second window, if you choose either AM FM, XM, you will get feed. The CD player will be selected but none of the disks will play.

I've brought it into two different BB places to get it looked at. There are pretty much only three connections in the car for the amp: battery to amp knob mounted under dash (which connects to fuse box), grounded line and then the line in the back of the car where the amp sits (line to RCA converter). What the tech did was unplug the factory sub in the back and used this to connect the modulator.
The first tech looked at all the fuses (all good), powered the amp on/off (sub still gets power but no audio) and was clueless. The second completely disconnected the setup--after performing his own tests--and told me to take it into the dealer. Still, if the setup is disconnected--you still receive a thud then no audio in the entire system.

I'm not extremely good with the newer car stereos but this one has me really puzzled. I also disconnected the battery to see if a factory reset would work but it didn't. Tech also noted that the system may think I have a blown speaker somewhere and go into some kind of lock/test/hybernation mode.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Jay

can you eject, insert and change cd's in the car? DO you hear the cd changer rollers moving? If you do hear it, it might be a bad componet inside the Head Unit of the Car. If not, that means that there is a damaged board on the radio

No Audio

Correct. I cannot eject, insert or even get to the changer. If I turn on the car and select XM, music will play for about 15-20 seconds (or until after the nav system warning goes away), then cut off. The XM setting will stay. If I try to push FM AM or the CD changer using the knobs on the head unit, I dont get anything. If i use the Mode button, I can then switch to FM or XM.. just no CD player.

I double checked the fuses and they also look ok..

Thanks for the heads up. Taking it into the dealer Monday so cross my fingers..

same here.. my radio just did this yesterday. i heard if all the things that you just listed happens, the dealer will have to replace your audio unit. mine is doing the same thing and i cant even turn it when i push the on/off-volume nob.

by the way my car is all stock.. and i really doubt its a blown speaker..

I have an 04 and I had the same problem a few weeks ago. Just play with the radio and leave the CD player alone, even if you have CD's stuck in there, until you take it to the dealership. They will get your CD's out when they check for the problem.

Mine was overed under warranty. I still have the stock radio but I installed Sirius.

My 2005 TL lost all audio tonight. About a week ago the CD player stopped working and wouldn't eject any CDs. Tonight the who system became stuck in HFL mode during two simultaneous calls. I can't turn HFL off. No radio, XM, CD, voice commands, or voice directions from the navigation system. Just silence and failure-to-buckle seatbelt warnings.

If HFL gets stuck, it is easy to reset. Pull the Radio fuse, lock the car. Unlock the car and put back in fuse. The same happened to my TL once and this is what I did. Make sure you have the radio and navi codes. A new HU can range from 200 dollars on ebay to about 2.5K depending on the dealer.

My TL did something similar with no audio but a tech said the remote turn-on for the factory amp was gone and he wired it to the ignition and go my sound back. I finally replaced my unit to something better, therefore i may sell my old unit.
