2004 TL with v3.7 navi dvd problems...

So, I have an original 2004 TL with the original 3.3 DVD.
For the first time, I decided to upgrade the DVD, and just ordered/received the 2008 (v3.7) navi DVD upgrade.

I put in the disc, and it upgraded my software.

However since then I've had problems...

Simple example: searching for a Starbucks.
Nave - Places - Restaurants - All Types - By Keyword - By Distance to Travel.
Type in : STARB
search.

This used to find the closest starbucks, but now it finds about 7 in the whole US.

I spoke to Acura tech support, who "researched it" and then told me that my upgrade must have failed and to take it to the dealership.

The dealership "reloaded" everything, but the search still does not work.
The dealership agree that the search does not work, and have told me that my disc must be faulty.

Has anyone had any problems like this?

Has anyone else done the 3.3 to 3.7 (2004 to 2008) upgrade?

Can anyone else with this disc do the same search and have it work?

Thanks.
Nick.

Any feedback from this?
Or success stories?
I'm about to try the same thing, upgrading 3.3 to 3.7 on an 04' Navi.....
I don't want to lose the search!

Hopefully I will have an update after the weekend.

I have a replacement disk, but am currently using the original disk.

I'm going to take some photos of before and after the update this time.

Nick.

Okay, so here is the deal.

To begin with I had the following Versions:
Database: 20030902
Software: v1.0400

To find the closest starbucks, I would press:
MENU
PLACE
CATEGORY
RESTAURANT
ALL TYPES
PLACE NAME BY KEYWORD
SORT BY DISTANCE TO TRAVEL
Type: S T A R B
LIST

The screen would instantly find local Starbucks, and I would have over 100 within 100 miles.
(I live near Los Angeles, so there are lots of POI's with Starbucks nearby.)

I then upgraded the software.
I left the car turned on.
I went to the trunk and changed the DVD's.
I watched the upgrade on the screen, and did not interrupt it, start the car, or anything silly like that.

I now have the following Versions:
Database: 20070604
Software: v1.4000

I tried to find the closest starbucks.
MENU
PLACE
CATEGORY
RESTAURANT
ALL TYPES
PLACE NAME BY KEYWORD
SORT BY DISTANCE TO TRAVEL
Type: S T A R B
LIST

Having searched 130+ mile radius, it found ZERO Starbucks.

Note, that this entire time, I had the car SITTING IN FRONT of a Starbucks.

So, basic, simple functionality that was working before no longer works.

I have finally found out how to find the closest Starbucks.
MENU
PLACE
NAME
Type: S T A R B U C K S
LIST
Select STARBUCKS category.
Select EATING PLACES sub-category (RESTAURANTS is an option, but it does not work.)
Now, it will (after a pause) find the starbucks.

Issues.
for some reason, they've re-categorized Starbucks coffee shops as "eating places" instead of "restaurants". Anyone know what the difference is.
There is no easy way to find "eating places".
There is no easy way to find "Starbucks".
There is no way to save a search.

So, while I might have an updated map (some new streets show up; some don't.) I have lost functionality.

Oh well.

Just go back to your 3.3 disc. Look up the directions in one of the BMP or Hack threads on how to get to the download program and use the 3.3 disc. Then you can sell the 3.7 disc on ebay or to someone here.

Man, now I'm unsure if I want to go through with the upgrade.
Is it only starbucks that has this issue?

Has anyone else got the 3.7 upgrade?

I'd like to know how they find the search working.
On the whole I'm happy with it, but starbucks is proably my most common single search, so it's a bit of a thorn in the side.

Oh well.

I finally got around to installing the upgrade.
I have no complaints. It appears as if the Starbucks issue is really simply a Starbucks problem with it being re-classified.

I have an 05 TL ( I think it has the same nav hardware as the 04) and I smooth-talked my way into a 3.7 orange disc. Mine has worked without problems...

How did you "smooth-talk" your way into a 3.7 disc? You mean you got it for free or just managed to find one you still had to pay for? Either way please tell how you got it?

Chillout24, one of the sales guys was telling me that he had to order a missing nav disc for a 05 TL on their lot. I persuaded him into taking mine and giving me the newer incoming one. I opted for that hoping the new one would be a 3.7 which it was. Excellent timing I suppose...

JCL622, I didn't really notice any major updates. Just makes me feel better! I think the alpine/acura does have a changelog that shows what was updated...sorry, I don't remember the site URL though...
