12V remote wire?

Broke down and had Audio Express install my basslink. Sounds great, but they claim the only way to get the 12v remote was from the ignition... which means unless the key is in the "run" position, my basslink is unpowered.

They said this was the ONLY way to do it. Are they blowing smoke at me? Are there any installers on these boards that know a different spot to get the 12v remote from? I tried the remote wire on the input to the stock amp, but it didn't work.

you can use the remote wire on the amp, but you will need to put a relay in, im pretty sure the stock amp only put out 6-8 volts from the remote wire

you can have them hook it to the accessorie wire and get power when the car is in acc (radio/windows i think) but you really don't want to be using your stereo without the car on.... you want things to be running off the battery while alternator is running.

Thanks guys. I appreciate it. I'll probably leave it like it is for a while and see if I can get use to it. If I can't, I'll probably try and move the pickup for the remote to the accessory wire.

Oh yeah... the stock amp runs on 9v. I had it wired up that way and couldn't make it work. I know just enough to follow instructions, but not enough to problem solve on my own. Thats why Audio Express wound up with the car.
