07 TL - How to keep iPod OUTSIDE of center console

Hi -

Has anyone figured out a way to snake the cable for the iPod out of the center console (where the plugin is) on the 07 TL?

I'd like to be able to keep it in the cupholder so I can skip songs. I'm not sure it is worth paying for MusicLink (which seems to get mixed reviews at best) just to have this functionality. Although, it would be nice to use the steering wheel controls...

Any suggestions? I'd like to do this without drilling or cutting, if possible, but having looked at it several times, it seems unlikely.

Has anyone out there figured this out?

Thanks

I have found out a way. I bought a retractable audio cord. Because it is a retractable cord it is REALLY thin. When I want to use it I just have the cord running out of the center console and into the cup holder.

When I'm done for a while I just put it back into the console. The nice thing is that it can retract, that gets rid of the messy tangle of wires.

I couldn't find the original link but this is the same thing from a different vendor.

Anyways... it has great audio quality. Just make sure you read the direction on how to retract it, otherwise it can become a little uneven.

It expands to 48" so its great for the passenger to control music without leaning over.

Hope that helps.

Thanks. I may give that a shot. Of course, I bought the expensive Monster Cable--and it is thick.

I leave mine in the console with this nifty IJet rf remote. Ran be about 10 bucks shipped on Ebay. Everything stays closed.. I still haven't figured out what to do with/store the little remote. It just sits on the cupholder cover.

Wow, thats a cool idea, I looked it up, and Radio Shack carries this for 9.99 BUT and im still researching this. I have the belkin power adapter (the one where the audio cable plugs in) and it looks like both of these wont work at same time.. Still researching tho.

Hi-

You may not have noticed this, but there is actually a cable channel in the armrest that will do what you want. You can get the wire from the deep bottom center tray to the shallow top center tray by using the cable hole at the back of the shallow tray. At the front of the shallow tray (on the driver's side of the tray) there is a channel that will let a cable get to the cupholder area without crushing it. It took me a while to find it, but it is there! At least on my TL-S...

Yup, im using that now, i didnt notice it right off the bat (got car in nov), but i store the ipod on top but each time i get in car i need to push play, this remote would resolve that problem, heck i could even put the ipod back in the bottom tray so i can store all my coins in the top so each time i open it they fall to the bottom (shame on acura for not fixing this already). but anyhow.. explain more with the remote. Like i said mine is using the aux and the belkin amp adapter mentiooned elsewhere in here. If I use the remote where it plugs into the top does that kill the bottom where the belkin cable plugs in????

Kudos to Brownnet!

I knew there was the opening to get the cable from the lower compartment to the upper, but didn't notice the channel to get the cable out. I already have my cell phone charger coming up through there--I did that on my 04TL as well. Even my Monster cable fits perfectly out that channel. Thanks for the tip. Now I'm all set without needing to buy anything additional or mutilating the car. I'm glad that I figure this out before attempting the latter.

They do work together. I have the aux-in connected to the output of the Belkin unit.. nothing plugged into the 'headphone' jack on the side of the Ijet. They say that they use the headphone wire as part of the antenna so it might get better reception but I've not had that much problem using the remote as my hand is usually resting on the gear shift.

Brownnet, thanks for the tip. I just got the car 2 weeks ago a kinetic blue TL type S. I was debating about getting a new ipod to use in the car and had the same question. I am not sure if I will get an ipod since I found the link from Adobeman about creating DVD-A discs. I have been able to create a couple of discs containing 80 songs + and I am not sure if I need to get an ipod now.

This forum is awesome.

Ok, I went to 4 radio shacks and finally got the Ijet, only 10.57 with tax. Got it in car and went to plug it in, but it doesnt work with the newer gen ipods.. If you notice from the pics above, there is a the plug right next the sound port and this plug (the square cooper) isnt on the newer IPods.. I have a 80g and it cant be used. Oh well, I will check with the website and see if they have a newer version for the newer ipods.. I knew for 10.00 this cant be true... Damnit! I post more as soon as I get more information.

That sucks! I forgot to mention that I have an older 4g (60GB Ipod Photo). Yeah, the Ipod photo's had a life of about 2 days. Once I bought one they came out with the video version..story of my life

Hope they come out with a new one for you. Mine is working great for me while I wait for a working 'musiclink' that displays on the nav screen.

Ok, I did get the AirLink one from Pc connection but when I opened it, I realized it didnt have the power pass thru. They swapped it out for the IJETV2 and this new one works perfectly, not sure where to mount the remote control but the unit works great with Gen 5 Ipod. total 41.00
