05 Non Nav TL - Sub Woofer issue

I have combed through the previous postings and threads. I dont really think I got the information / answer I might have been looking for, so here is my post.

I have the sub woofer rattle from the stock sub. I went to a local car audio place and we ripped out the back seat and removed the rear shelf. Their suggestion was to cut that sub alltogether and place a small slim box with a sub in the trunk. I of course say - do whatever you gotta do to make the noise go away without loosing sound quality.

They installed a Westin? (i dont pay much attention to these things) sub in a small box and use my stock amp.

To me - my car now sounds like it has lost some of the warm/ complete sound. Nor do I think the sub is really comming through the backseats with such low power. When I adjust the Amp sound setting on the head unit - i dont notice much of a difference/ the sound now in the cabin sounds more "bright" since the new sub was relocated.

I called the car audio guy and go back in on Sat. to have them figure something out.

Any suggestions on what I should do/ minimal cost. My hope is to be able to go to them on Sat. and tell them "just do this" and walk out the door with equal sound quality to my stock / something that even sounds better.

So far I have 200$ vested into this project. I imagine they will take back the box and sub and issue me like a $150.00 credit towards whatever else. I dont mind spending a little more if this just gets done correctly, but also not looking to drop a grand.

I appriciate your time thought and replies.

Hmm... I'm not sure what a Westin is. There is a company called Westin that makes nice accessories for trucks.

Anyway, an upgraded subwoofer that runs off the factory amp is going to sound like poo. If there is any sound to be heard at all. The installer should have recognized the lack of bass just as you did. That sucks that they just let you roll.

Some AZ members use a BassLink from Infinity. It's a small subwoofer in a plastic box with it's own amp. My only beef with that setup is that it sounds like a small woofer in a plastic box. The cure for your TL is going to require an aftermarket amp and some type of subwoofer in an enclosure. This will also require more money but it's a guarantee for happiness.
