04 TL nav screen blank

So my nav screen is completely blank. The radio still works and I can change the channels and adjust the volume. I just can’t see it.

From the research I’ve done it sounds like a DVD issue in the trunk. After checking the DVD player I can see the LED light is not on. I’ve checked the connections and all associated fuses and all those seem to be ok.

I know you can send it back to Alpine for repair, but they currently want $368 at minimum to do the repair if needed. I’ve been looking at replacement units on EBay and that seems like a better choice since most of those run about $200.

1st, Is there anything I may have missed as far as diagnosing this blank screen?

2nd, has anyone had success in ordering a used DVD from EBay?

I have the same issue currently but started differently. Factory Nav DVD drive yields a checkerboard flashing picture that still dims - everything else works except the secondary top screen.
Bought a "known working DVD drive" from eBay and that yielded a blank black screen that also dims - all other things remain the same.
Bought a "known working Nav Screen" from eBay and no change to any results with both drives (have tried all combos). Wiring seems solid, I checked all wiring at the back of the DVD drive and looks good. No clue the issue, but likely the DVD drive which I got a quote from Alpine for just like you.

In hindsight, instead of wasting ~$400 on eBay, I would have rather wasted ~$400 to Alpine to at least ensure I have a working DVD drive.

So I took a chance and got a used DVD player on EBay for $240 and it worked! The display is back and working.

Although in retrospect the only thing I really got out of this is I get to see the radio station channels. I’m not really gonna use the nav for anything because I use my phone. So I probably should have just paid a little more and got a nice aftermarket radio with Bluetooth. Something more modern. Oh well.

flap, You must have realized that the NAV is interfaced with everything, its not just navigation that you would miss.

Dang I wish my eBay replacements would have worked! That's a bummer lol but I'm not too sure what my issue is. Happy you got yours resolved, this is a pain if it goes unfixed for a while.
