04-06 Switchblade key procedure?? milled?

Well after reading several posts.. i was wondering if anyone knows hat exactly needs to be changed to have a TL switchblade key made for an 04? I know flbusa sells them but it seems as if it takes forever plus the price went up.. Im looking into other routes just wondering if anyone knows wut needs to be "milled" or changed before i can have it cut and programmed to my car

i went to every lock smith and called many lock smith out of state and they said it can not be done. If you look at the two keys, its just not the same size, density, width, hiegth, etc. Only way as of now is to go through Pete from flbusa.

thats a pretty funny thing.. im def. a person that opens the book on a subject he is not the ONLY one capable alot of people have done this, this site is just sprung on him anyway ive been researching alot.. and i wont be going thru someone who cant even answer emails.. all he does is switch the laser part with a non laser cut blank.. or you could even use your existing precut key.. instead that way you wouldnt even have to pay to get it reprogrammed or cut.. pix should do the talking.. first pic is how it looks when u get it.. laser cut blank key i will be making these and selling them shortly..
take this out >>>

replace with this...

then sand the jb weld off.. etc and paint black if you desire for a clean look

like i said ive been researching this alot.. im pretty sure i have it down.. ill do one and post pix and then for the people who do not feel comfortable doing it ill have some for sale =].. if you use one of your oem keys.. u do NOT have to have it reprogrammed at dealer, or have it cut( you will still need to program the lock, unlock, truck which is easily DIY)

Nice...though I'm pretty sure he mills the new switchblade to match the old style. Either way works. I'm curious, is the key blank held in by rivets or screws? Does the switchblade key fob come apart easily and reassemble with the same integrity?

the top of the key the black part is plastic.. (you cut it straight down on each side using the key as a guide.. you then get the new key and jb weld.. that part is held together with 3 screws... he mills the new switchblade to match the old style??? what is the old style this is the exact thing he does theres no other way around it.. the key blank that comes with it is huge and laser cut.. 04-06 TL's are not, works with tsx, rsx, and TL... minor mods are needed for other cars

there's a thread on the tsx forum about it already https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...ht=switchblade ,quite frankly i find it to be a pita especially taking the TL key apart without damaging the immobalizer.

When the switchblade was originally done, it was done as the pictures show. Gotta hack up your existing key. There is a small chip in the center of all that rubber around your existing key which you should remove.

Then on the new key after you take it all apart, you have to carefully cut the plastic off as you will need it to secure onto your existing metal portion. then you jbweld it and what not.

FLBUSA actually took the switchblade key and milled into so that it was thinner, and placed the grooves into it as well. the material is different as you can tell to.

word to the wise, when you decide to start doing this for money, be sure to get authorization from the mods (pretty sure u already knew that but ya know).
