Are you having tranny problems too?

Lately my TL has been tweaking out. 1ST My tranny makes this loud “CLUNK” sound when I take it out of Park and into Reverse. 2nd @highway speeds, when I brake my Automatic tranny downshifts unusually sharp at around 50MPH. 3rd This one has nothing to do with the tranny. My cruise control adds on 5mph during a hill descent. I took it to the dealer for regular maintenance, and asked about all of these potential problems. They had told me, “that it’s normal for all of these things to be happening”. I’m getting concerned that this isn’t normal.
Does anyone out there have similar problems????????

guess what, the majority of repliers to your post will be those having problems. those with no problems usually don't bother to reply.

NORMAL. Two factors may make this noise.

1. Usually FWD vehicles used to have that loud sound when shifting between R and other gears.

2. If parking over inclines, your P gear will engage tightly. When you try to move it out of P, the sound would happen.

I haven't heard this issue yet, but r u driving it downhill or in any specific driving conditions?

about this one. Mine seems to run ok without this 5mph stuff.

driving at normal conditions on Flat roads, inclined, or when descending.

The harsh downshift always happens when i keep my foot on the brake for 10-15 sec.
and your rite about the loud shift that happens from parking to reverse on an incline.

All of the things you are experiencing are normal. This site just has you paranoid. Trust me.....when the transmission is going, you will know it. I'm on my 3rd tranny on the TL-S (first on my 04---thank god) and I can tell you that its obvious when the tranny is going on this car.

Mine makes the "clunk" sometime when I shift from P to R. It also downshift when I brake and keep my foot on it for 10-15sec.
I hope this is normal.

Dunno. But 04TL has a feature called Grade Logic Control, 5AT's shift schedule would be changed when driving uphill or downhill. This system will count all factors, such like throttle, speed, inclined conditions, brake, etc., then determine if your car should go to lower gear...

If you car has no problem after inspected, maybe your tricky conditions just trigger this feature in working.

BTW, 2K2SilverTL-S , one more failure, you will get free 05TL.
