YES! Just picked up my 05 TL. Do I need to break it in?

Anthacite/ camel auto w/navi. Sweet car! Last one in with this color combo in South Florida as I have been told until the middle of January! Is there any special break in procedeure I should follow?

Also I highly recommend David Becker @ Acura of South Florida. 954-985-2424. Did a great job!

Congratulations.....

I'd suggest taking it easy on the car for a while, besides that go have fun and dont get caught sitting in your car for more than an hour everyday, after your commute

Break-in period on the brakes is 200 miles. Engine is 600 miles. For brakes that basically means no hard stops. But if the choice is a hard stop or hitting something, hit the brakes.

For the engine it means no full throttle acceleration and try to not keep the engine at a constant RPM. So if you're going to do some highway driving it's a good idea to either vary your speed a little or toggle between the gears a little.

And congrats on the purchase.

there is no significant proof of that. there is a website that stated if you pound the accelerator right when you get the car you will "seat" the piston rings better and therefore retain more hp from the car. i read alot on this before i took delivery and there are as many people who support it and oppose it. no one really provided factual evidence that this claim was true so i stuck with the manufacturer's advice. i was easy on the engine for the first 600miles and the brakes for 200. i didn't keep it below any rpm but just varied it throughout my daily driving. also that hard break in concept was for motorcycles and was not done on cars.

There is no break-in on the TL, the only thing Acura recomends that you "not" do is use the cruise control for the first 350-500 miles.

To CompTechType-S;

"There is no break-in on the TL"?

I beg to differ, sir. Read page 164 of your Owner's Manual.

Engine, tranny, axles, brakes all need to bed-in to extend their service life. Follow the dirctions in your manual - they are not there to keep the printer busy.

Thank you all so much. I will be reading the manual tonite. I LOVE THIS CAR! I have always driven Benz, Lexus, Lincolns before this and Acura just blows them all away!

For most models, this is true. Kinda like preaching to the choir here though.
Enjoy. Six hundred miles go quick.

I never break in a car. No difference, it runs fine. I will be getting the 05 next month and prob will not break that in either. Unless you count 0-80 out of the tolls as breaking it in.
