The other car must have been traveling at a very high rate of speed to cost that much damage. But the TL held up pretty good considering the impact speed. Let's just hope no one was sitting on the passenger side.

Who is going to do the paper works over the wrecked vehicle? Ppl usually won't touch that smashed cars if not their cars.
If so, this 04TL really did the good protection to him.
I hope the people are all right.
I don't know why it is considered exotic. After all, it wasn't even a 6MT! If it was, then it could be considered exotic. He would have been able to stop sooner too... Brembos you know.

That picture makes me feel VERY safe; Honda clearly has done an excellent job with structural integrity for years. Structural integrity is the reason I continue to buy Hondas--I was in a serious accident some years back in my first car, a 1982 Honda Civic. The car rolled over multiple times and landed on its roof. Car: totalled. Me: walked away with only scratches.
I've bought Honda products almost exclusively since then.

The TL looks like it held up pretty good. The passenger compartement doesn't look too bad from this angle.
Its killing me lookin at that picture. Thank god it wasnt Black like my car. That would really be a sad sight then. And even though I own an auto body repair shop it still kills me to see that happen to my make of car. Its a total loss anyway and wouldn't see my shop for repairs. Be cool to find out if the guy buys another TL.

Actually, the cop was driving the TL. He has just brought it home to show his wife the lovely CAMEL interior. She swooned and fell to the floor with a serious case of the vapors. She couldn't take all the beauty in at once on an empty stomach.
The cop placed her in the car and rushed to get her to the dealership because she said she had to have her own TL only Nighthawk Black Pearl with the Camel Interior. In her haste, she spoke to the voice recognition girl saying "Step on it, Bi--h!" You know the rest. The light turned yellow, etc. etc. The wife got a nose bleed from bumping into the side curtain upon the impact (you can see the blood on the Camel seat). Other than that, she was unhurt and able to place a frantic call to the Acura dealership down the street.
The salesman (yellow shirt) responded in the white van beater (a service loaner), and the cop is signing the order for the new TL: Black/Camel.
And that's how I see it, Dr. Rohrschack!

OK, here is my take on the picture....
The TL was going straight (the way the car is facing now)... he went in front of something going FAST and got hit hard. He was pushed into the white van whose driver was just sitting there saying f&ck!!
Look at the slide mark of the front wheel of the TL. It was moved a good distance. Also look at the cars behind the wreck. All are going in the same direction... it is a divided highway.

This TL was hit by a van/truck travelling in excess of 50Mph. The TL was probably part of the way through the intersection as most of the damage is to the front half of the car. The TL then had it's ass end pushed out by looking at the direction of the sid mark on the ground by that wreck front tire. The amount of intrusion on that front door is hard to tell from that angle and makes it difficult to speculate on the injuries that a passegner might have had. Had there been a passenger, they have the potential to have SERIOUS injuries. The side airbag is nice to protect your arms/chest/and head; however, they don't really protect your pelvis. Pelvic injuries kill people. There are too many big blood vessels and too large of a potential space to bleed into.
All in all, the car did a great job of taking a beating. I had a CL that got hit the same way by a person going about 50mph. some day I'll post the pics. I was lucky there was no passenger, but the do didn't have that much intrusion. My car got spun 180 degrees and pushed up an on ramp about 30feet. I got out the car wondering what the f**k had just happened and only had a scratch on my finger. Got the CL fixed (10k in damage) and traded it right in for a TL. Acura and safety go hand in hand. Just my two cents from a lowly ER doc.

What does this mean? Thanks.
I'm actually pretty disappointed at how mangled this car is. This had to be one hell of an accident to justify the complete disfigurement. Otherwise, I'm not sure how the TL has achieved its high safety ratings. The body panels appear to have crumpled like aluminum foil.
ajc, I bet you know this... http://www.acura-tl.com/forums/showthread.php?t=77205

). Never found my radar detector, it flew out the shattered passenger side window. Found my wallet two days later about 60 yards from where the car stopped. I used to have pictures, my car looked worse than this picture, but fairly similar. The reason I paid attention to the deflector comment is that on my pictures, people kept asking: why do you have a spoiler on the roof of a coupe? And I had to explain to them: well, it's really not a coupe, it's a sedan, and that's not a spoiler, it's the rear seat's headrest sticking through the roof.... Thanks Honda :worship:

Cars are designed that way. They crumple -- absorbing most of the impact energy -- sacrificing themselves to protect the driver and the car's occupants. After all, it's just a car... I would rather the car take the bulk of the impact energy than my body!
