Since I am finally out of hauling hockey equipment around and if I could get over the looks of the 4G, I would consider replacing my Pilot with an AWD TL. Maybe I can hold out long enough and Honda will fire the designers of the 4G and design something better for the 5G.

I'm sure the 4G is technically better than the 3G, but the styling inside and out just doesn't do it for me.

It would depend on money and on whether I could find a remaining 3G, with the 6MT and Navi, as a new vehicle. I don't care for the 4G at all.

The other car I would consider, again if the money allowed it, would be the BMW 335d (the diesel 3-series). Problem is, it costs something like $50,000, and BMW really rips you off on all the options (everything's an option that costs extra and it's absurd). There's also no manual transmission because they didn't have one that could handle the amount of torque that engine makes.

Hopefully this won't be an issue for me for many years.

I've had 3 TL's in a row (2k, 04 base, 08 Tech) and all the same color (WDP/Parchment). Yea, I know I'm very traditional, loyal and boring. I have bought TL's to this point because they offered the best quality/bang for the buck of any car in its class. That being said, I am not adverse to switching brands and colors the next time around (2011) unless they offer an absolutely killer deal on a 4g.

OP did you buy the TL in HS or was it a gift? Asking if we would purchase it again is a bit ironic if you received the TL as a gift. I'm guessing you / family have deep pockets.. If you get a vette you might as well get a Z06.. If I were to get the LS3 plant it would be in a new Camaro.

I haven't had my 3G TL as long as you but I plan on owning it for a long time, it'll eventually turn into a project car. The new upgrade / DD when the time comes will be a Nissan GT-R35. btw.. I saw a 4G WDP TL on the road last week and it actually looked decent.. I guess if you look at fugly for long enough you start to get used to it.

I'm not pleased with overal Acura quality on these builds but if I were to buy another car.. I would buy the TL again.. definitely no regret on the original purchase.

Yes it was a gift but I dont see how that makes a differance in purchasing another one? I have spent 5 years in the car and I am saying that I would not purchase another one....

Deep pockets... idk... we do ok. But not ok enough to spend 85,000 on a car. Ill stick with a normal LS3.

< no regrets on the original purchase (other than not getting teh MT). I too, will probably keep this car as a project car/ and or drive it till its wheels fall off. However, I will probably not by another Acura unless the MMC 4G is amazing- inside and out.

Most likely will be upgrading within the next 3-5 years to something else. I want to enjoy no car payments for a little while.

EDIT- if my TL was totalled today, I would get a MB E class, Lexus GS, Infiniti M or a BMW 5er.

BFMC is needed on the rear of the 4G.. I'm getting used to it but jeez that's a whole lot of ugly.. There was a short period where I had no debts except rent, food & utils.. it was nice, yet short lived

You can score a Z06 with a few miles on it in the same ballpark as the others new. I think there is a difference between OOP & gifted but maybe it's JMO.. I guess I'd have to be on the receiving end first.. .. I can understand how you'd like something new.. I think you should sell the TL to get the most out of it. You'll get good value from it since you're the first & only owner and you took care of it. You'll definitely get more than trade-in.

I am thinking about replacing my 04 3G 6MT with a ZDX as the TL is a definite “downgrade” from my last Acura.

I started with a 90 Integra GS 6-speed, then went to a 95 Legend 6-speed coupe. I miss the “big car” ride of my Legend coupe.

between the 3 cars you listed, i would definitely go with the M3 (assuming you can afford the insurance and maintenance fees after warranty is up [or you could get a 3 year lease and then lease another car depending on whether you like the M3 or not]).

If something happened to my car (knock on wood**), i would definitely get another TL. I love my 07 TL. but i would prob move up to the Type-S version in Kinetic Blue.

or

if i could not find an 08 Type-S with low mileage, i would go for an IS350 (since my brother is getting either a G37 s or 370z nismo).

BUT, M3 for sure

Funny I was just having this conversation with someone at work.... I absolutely adore my 06 TL, but if something were to happen to it, I damn-sure wouldn't buy the 4G - I'm sure it drives like a dream but I just hate the looks. Honestly, I've been really attracted to the new Hyundai Genesis - saw 1 blacked-out on LI the other day and found myself following it all over the highway just to gawk at it. Really good looking car, even though the RWD might pose a problem during NYC winters. I think I'd really have to consider it if something happened to my TL although it probably doesn't handle as well. In reality, I hope to keep my TL forever and complement it with a Mustang GT ASAP (I shoulda kept my '91 300zx)!!! But I just bought a house so it's gonna have to wait a while

I have owned an 00 TL, 02 TL-S and currently own an 06, if the car was to be totaled today then my first choice would be to look for an 07-08 Type S if not then I'd most likely end up getting an M35X or GS350 AWD.

The 4G TL is nice and i wouldnt mind owning one but it was never love at first sight as it was with the 2G TL and the 3G TL.

I love this car and it has a lot of meaning to me because it was my first one but I can say that I would not buy another TL. At least not as my next car. I would not have to have the same thing again. Its nothing against the car its just the thrill of trying new things and experiencing something else. I also feel as though while Im still young I want to drive something more sporty. I have been thinking about what my next car will be. I will prob purchase a new car by summer of 2010. Right now my thoughts are:

BMW M3
Corvette Coupe
G37S - 2D

Anyone else in the same boat when it comes to not wanting the same thing over again.

This post was sparked by someone crashing their TL and having to buy a new car. He said he was going to wait until he could afford to buy another TL. If I totaled my car today, I would be out looking for different cars to buy.
You have a perfectly good daily driver. Its a front wheel drive and handles fairly well in snow. Seems like you have no problems with the car mechanically.
How about this suggestion. Pay off the car. If paid off, buy a house. Then save up some cash and buy a weekend driver. Deferred gratification, brotha. Something that is no longer relevant in our society.

I don't regret my purchase but if I were to buy a car now, I'd definitely get something a little more sporty just out of personal taste, as the TL is more then enough sport for most people.

MT wouldn't hurt

I wouldn't get another TL if mine were totaled. If you're a democrat, don't get another TL because what you want is change lol. I'd get a S Class or 7 series or the LS over the 3 cars listed. Anyways, If i had to, I'd choose the M3. All the corvettes look the same to me. Ohhh maybe the new Audi's too since I think they look nice.

AFTER I PAID OFF MY TL I WILL GET USED NSX FOR UNDER $30K.
Hopefully insurance not so high compare to the TL.

A New S, LS, and 7 all start near or above 80k. Not in my price range lol.

I have to say every since the 3g was introduced i knew i would own it. The design still looks good and hasnt aged much. (We can probably thank the 4g for this.) If my car did get totaled I would not get another TL deffinately not the 4g. In fact i will probably replace my 3g with a Genesis or G37 in a year or so.

Tough choice for me if my Tl got totaled today ... already got a MDX to haul the rugrats but Acura lineup doesn't have anything appealing to me at this moment .. might wait for the NSX to reveal itself later on ...

Out of M3, G37 or Vette, I'd lease a M3 so that I don't have to deal with maint./repair costs ...

I wouldn't get another TL cuz I have already experinced rich cars for these 4 years of owning TL. I'm thinking to get Honda Insight 2010. But not sure yet. But my dad has civic hybrid so I want Insight or Prius if I can get any of them. I actually want to get 2009 Honda Accord(wagon) in Japan.
It is good to choose sporty car too but I'm not really speed person so. i like to drive around a lot and take pictures everywhere.(slow is better cuz i can take more picture)

I just paid off my 04 TL, but I must admit the CTS coupe due out next summer has gotten my complete attention. I've had very problems with the TL so I'd think long and hard before I bought a Caddy. As the Temptations say "beauty is only skin deep."

I'm currently on my second 3G TL. If they were still on the market, I would surely buy another new one.

I wouldn't touch that 4G with a 10 foot pole. My lease is up soon, and there is nothing that I want. I'm just going to buy my TL-S.

Will this be a daily, or toy? If its strictly a toy, a FWD sedan will never cut it. (IMHO)

I bought my 06 6mt as a daily. My target price range was $20-30k. I drive 30k miles a year...but I wanted something big enough to bring customers/stuff that is fun to drive and reliable. Great HWY fuel economy helps too. I honestly couldn't find a better car for the $. I LOVE this car. (Im the odd bird who prefers the 6mt 04-06 over a Type S too)

I wanted to like the G sedan, but I think its kinda ugly and the fuel economy is poor. I would never lay 30k miles /yr on a German sedan...I like trouble free driving. (my 80s Supra is the $$$ pit)

FWIW, I had a FX35 prior. I did like the FX...but the TL is way more fun to drive. I hammer the hell out of my TL...and the brakes set the bar very high. Im often shocked at the braking performance. I will prob do an ASPEC susp kit, since its a bit soft, and the f/r shift between gears is annoying. Since its a daily, I have no desire to go more agressive.
