Unhappy Worth of 2005 TL?

Acuraziners-

I have been a lurker for a year. Love all the info that you have provided.

I need from the community, a fair and accurate value for my 2005 Acura TL. It has 16,800 miles, purchased new in April 2005, White, no winter driving, no NAVI, was driven by my wife( some small scraping on rims). It is virtually new and a has been a garage queen, as you can tell by the mileage.

The decision to sell is due to an upcoming divorce, and we are selling all items in order to rid ourselves of as much debt as possible. I live in Omaha, and anyone near me looking for an 05' TL, is welcome check it out.

I appreciate your time in reading this, and your help in pricing my TL.

Thanks,

Scott

Scott -
I would suggest going on www.kbb.com to find out.

I looked it up for you (but with my zip code in PA) and this is what it would be worth here in "GOOD" condition (according to Kelley Blue Book):
TRADE-IN: $25, 800
PRIVATE PARTY SALE: $27,880
SUGGESTED RETAIL VALUE: $31,710

Around here, those figures would seem pretty accurate.

Good luck to you!

That sounds right on the money to me. I paid $27,900 to a private party last summer for an '05 (non-navi, AT) in "good" condition. The rims had some scrapes and there were a few paint chips, and the mileage was about 19k, so I think we're in the same ballbark. (Obviously, that price doesn't include tax or license since it was non-dealer transaction).

Whatever you do, don't sell your car to a dealer. You'll get less than you would from a private party. I'd start looking at Craigslist and local papers and see what kind of listings you see.

Good luck!

I sold my '99 Saturn on craigslist. If you have a fair price, it will sell quickly. Within 1 day my listing generated about 10 inqueries and so I basically got to choose my buyer. I sold it to a guy who paid cash, absolutely no hassles. It's definitely the way to go.

Alternate for a quick sale may be Carmaxx if there is one in your area. Sorry things didn't work out.

agreed. many of us have been able to buy a 2006 new in the past few months for 28,500 without Navi and 30,500 with Navi. I would think these prices would have an affect on the resale of a 2005. Although at this point there arent any new 2006 cars left so the 2007 pricing is much higher.

IMO our market is over-inflated and we have access to just about every type of automobile dealer that there is... In 11/05 I paid $36,000+ for my TL w/ navi. Yep. It makes me ill to hear of others paying thousands less; it's f***ed up in my opinion (although no hard feelings to who got the good deals; I'm happy for the people that they got such a better deal, just not happy that it wasn't available to me). LOL.

Right now in my area, my TL which has 12,600 miles w/ navi, wheel locks, rear airbags, etc.; this is what its going for [according to KBB]:
Trade-In: $26, 075 -
Private Party: $28,330
Suggested Retail: $32,375

Two weeks ago I had an opportunity to purchase an 05 TL w/Nav with 27,000 miles from a friend for the lease residual (23,700); (using the local acura dealer as an intermediary). In addition to the 23,700 I would have had to pay KS state sales tax in the amount of $1,730. The car was in good condition - never wrecked/always garaged.

I took it to two separate dealers for a wholesale bid to determine what the vehicle might actual bring if I were to trade it in for something new. Both dealers bid the car at 23,500 and indicated they would likely list it for 26 - 27,000. My purpose in looking at the buyout was to try to capture some value on a possible trade for a new vehicle. In the State of KS, that is the only way I could recapture the sales tax paid. Of course my other alternative would have been to sell the car outright, but the sales price would need to exceed $25,500 (23,700+1,730) to break-even. Way too narrow of profit margin to pursue.

Perhaps the Wichita market is more limited than Omaha, but I doubt a private owner could realize more than 26,000 on this car - which appears similar to your's though with NAV, but slightly higher miles. Good luck.

Incidentally, I own an 04 Non Nav with 25,000 miles - I decided not to swap for several reasons including the fact that the 05 was a rattle trap - my 04 is rattle free and I like the color better.
