Wood trim...
Wood trim...
Is the wood trimming the exact same that comes with Parchment and Camel? or are they different? B/c i've read some threads that were saying they didn't like the "fake" wood look that comes with the Camel and i was wondering if the Parchment is the same "fake" wood trimming.
In my opinion the wood grain is way better than the carbon fiber. the carbon makes the car very cheap lookin on the inside the wood grain looks awesome against the camel interior from the compliments that ive gotten.

That's 100% genuine simulated Birdseye maple, brother.

I wasn't crazy about the fake wood in my parchment interior but have grown to accept it. I recall looking at some used A8's just for the heck of it (for whatever reason, I have always thought the last generation A8's were extremely good looking cars). Anyway, the wood trim in that level of auto is obviously real. However, with all of the layers of finish required to protect it, it really didn't impress me that much. Just my .02.

Wood pieces added to Quartz interior
Hi fellow members. You all must be new on this thread. Please use the search feature and see if you can find other posts about this subject.
When I ordered my Anthracite/Quartz/5AT/Nav model, I had the service mgr. investigate on whether the accent pieces OEM with the Parchment/Camel interiors were available through the parts dept. They were. You see I didn't like any other combination of interior and exterior combinations as much. I ordered them ($300) and had them delivered to the dealer. I then had the dealer remove the Black Carbom pieces from my newly received TL. The dealer installed the replacement pieces for $500 and one day of work. I then took delivery of my car, never having had to look at the "cheap looking" Black Carbon Fiber pieces. I then ordered the after market kit through exoticwooddash.com ($196 at the time). If you would like to see the completed look, pm me with your e-mail address and I will be happy to share pics with you. I know this is a subjective subject. For me, I am very pleased with the end result.

Thanks everyone for there comments. They were greatly appreciated. Oh and "Yano..." i didn't say they it was fake, i was just quoting what other members on the forum had said about it. In my opinion, i love the wood trim better than the carbon fiber. My question is which does it bring out the int. color more with...Camel or Parchment.
On another note, the pic that boltjames posted... now that's just too much wood. Just my .02

i have silver/gray, i like black carbon contrast with aluminum. the wood makes the car look older and makes me look old. i m not saying wood is not good at all. but not in my tl. Maybe good in bigger benz or bmw 5 and up whose drivers are 35+

I got the ABP/Camel (with the wood) and Navi. My interior looks very different than the Pic BJ posted. My Navi screen is NOT bordered by wood. My radio is NOT bordered by wood. The wood on my interior ends at the doors covering the compartments below the radio.
I agree with you though that the wood trim in the non Navi is a little much. I say this knowing that BJ may torch me for it. Normally I find his flames to be very funny, but they haven't been aimed at me...yet.
FYI, Exoticwooddash.com has lots of dash/interior kits. If you like real wood, they make a kit that will cover either the carbon fiber or the "plood" with a dark brown burl wood. Also they make the add/on kits (covering other areas in the car) in the existing factory "plood", like brucedeb has or in real wood. I put the medium burl REAL wood in my wifes 4Runner and it really looks good. The 4Runner has a rather overdone granite look (much worst than our carbon fiber) and this kit covered it nicely.
I bought my faux wood from www.exoticwooddash.com also. I was very happy with their service. A piece was missing in my original order and they got it to me quite expeditiously. I really don't like the aluminum trim in the interior and the faux wood extra pieces "cover" that modern trim up nicely. I'll post pics for all to see one of these days. The faux wood looks like real wood and matches the factory faux wood perfectly. If real burl wood is available go for it. I'm sure that'll be drastically more money. The complete faux wood kit was under $200. I installed it myself in an hour, and I am by no means a "car guy".

Since i had 3 2nd gen TL's, I have had fun watching the progression of the fake wood, and the new stuff is the best fake wood ever. But I have noticed that on some cars with real wood, it is so processed that IT looks fake. It doesn't bother me at all, and most fo the people who ride in my car ooh and ahhh at the burled maple. I just shrug.
BTW, I like to look for faces in the TL's burl - I use them as counselors. If I am contemplating some high speed maneuver, I quickly check the wood, and if the faces do not look happy, i do not do it - the wood KNOWS - follow the WOOD....................
