Windshield Tint Question

Fisrt, hello all. I have been reading post on here for some time but never posted myself. I just picked up my 2007 TL a week ago and had some questions about tint.

I had the car tinted with 15% Formula One ceramics all around except the windshield. The windshield I had done with 50% Formula One ceramic. The car looks great and I never would have thought I would get the windshield tinted but after some discussion with the installer I thought I would give it a try.

My question for those who have had their windshield tinted; do you have distortion especially at night? I see a bad halo around oncoming headlights, traffic signals, and other bright lights. I originally thought it was a glaze of sorts on the glass. I waited 5 days and washed the glass real well but I still have the same problem.

I thought this may be due to the angle of the windshield. Soes anyone else have this problem? If not, what tint did you use on the windshield? I like the windshield being tinted but not sure I can stand the distortion.

Thanks all. This is a great forum!!!

I had the same thing. i had a tinted windshield and loved it, no more sunglasses!

But YES, there is distortion at night. It bothered me at night, but then I got used to it. Give it a few weeks and you won't even notice it anymore. My windshield recently got cracked and replaced, but I plan on re-tinting it.

I was also going to tint my windshield at 50%, but the installer said that he couldn't do it because of the 2 sensors on the dash, the auto AC and the auto Headlights. He said that the metal in the tint would screw up the sensors. He also called Acura and they agreed. But if u dont use the sensors would it be ok?

Let me know.
Thanks

I have a few concerns about a tinted windshield. How many times do you guys get pulled over for it? Also I noticed the inspection sticker. The guys in jersey rip them right off with a razor blade, that can't be good for the tint.

I was thinking about getting my windows tinted but I don't want to be harassed by the cops. 20% tint means only 20% of the light goes through, not only 20% of the light is blocked, right?

Just make sure they use a ceramic tint and it should not effect any of the electronics.

Other than the distortion, I have not had any problems with any of the sensors.

Thanks guys. I guess I'll leave it for a couple of weeks and see if I get used to it. I really was thinking about taking it off but I I'll give it a shot.

Thanks.

You can barely tell at 50% the windshield is tinted. The difference while driving though is huge. I would not recommed going darker than that if you're worried about the police.

Yes 20% means what it let through. ie 50% is lighter that 20%.

Yo K-Shawn, those pics look great. I have a RRP too and want to run tint and black my headlights out as oppossed to sticking with Red. 20% on the windshield isn't too much even at night?

Also, does anyone know a good shop in south jersey?

I'll check those 2 places out. It'll have to be on a weekend though, there's no way I can make it on a week day.

Kevin, those guys will make sure to tint the entire window on the rear doors? I don't know what the window is called, but the one on the rear doors that don't go down, I've read on here some people get them tinted and shops don't get all the way inthere leaving part of that window looking gray.

How much would Lorenzo run me?

Of course.......moleskins, removal of the rear quarter glass, 3m tint, complimentary hand wash, & micro edging. Lorenzo can do the install for $300 and the windshield is a extra $100.

I agree with Kevin, 3M all the way...

Just be careful, some insurance companies consider windshield tint "intentional obstruction of your view" and can cause problems if involved in an accident.

Pretty sure this is Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing.

Just stay away from the PostIt Note Brand Tints.

Guess you could remove the old sticker yourself while you're waiting in line for your inspection.

After posting that I quickly realized how dumb of a question it was. Taking a car with a tinted windshield is like signing a retard up to take the GREs. No way will it ever pass and whatever scratch the inspection station put in you tint won't matter because you'll never get the car to pass inspection until you remove the scratched tint anyways. I guess you'll need to find a crooked mechanic in Jersey to give you a sticker.

Welcome to Acurazine. I actually don't have my winshield tinted yet, however, those I have spoken with at my shop says if you use a metallic film you won't get the distortion at night. According to my shop, who has been in business for about 20 years guarantees the film will not affect navigation. Acura's nav system is well advanced and I have never heard of the metallic film causing problems. Even with the ceramic glare, you will most likely get used to it within a week or two. Whatever you decide, do what you want and not what someone else suggestions. Remember it's your car.

Take care!

Or you get get virginia plates and have your doctor sign a "Window Shading" waiver, allowing you to tint your front winshield 50% legally :o )
