Window Tinting Costs
Window Tinting Costs
I was just quoted $290 for upgraded tint on all windows minus the windshield plus an additional $65 to take out the rear pocket windows on my 2005 TL. (I was told this needs to be done for proper installation) I then inquired about moleskin and was quoted another $45 per window for a total of $535. This seems high to me. Is moleskin needed for the TL and what is a reasonable price to get a quality tinting job done? This quote was done by Auto Truck Detailers in Chadds Ford PA. Thanks!

Honestly I don't know if I have moleskin or not cause my car was already tinted but quality films should be scratch resistant. If I were you I'd get a quote from Shades of Gray in Trevose, I paid $250 for my other car with Llumar film a few years ago. I took my wife's car to 215 Motoring and paid $150 for cheaper film but I'd rather go back to Shades of Gray, they have the best reputation in the Philly area.

the reason why the TL scratches the tint is because of debris.
tiny sand particles get in between the "window blade/window strip" and door panel.
mole skin or felt absorbs these tiny particles.
if not installed and you like to roll down your windows; debris can get caught and scratch up your tint as you roll them back up.
this is evident as the scratches are not horizontal.
they are Vertical and random.
and the others were right; it depends on what type of film is used.
I opted for a ceramic tint and not a dyed tint.
the ceramic tint rejects more heat at a lighter %.
I paid close to $400 for mine.

I had my windows tinted a few years ago. Formula Pinnacle Series at 50%, that with proper window tinting (no gap in the back quarter panel glass, and tinting under the third break light) along with moleskins on all windows.
I would say yes, moleskins are a good idea. There is a DIY in the garage I believe and much cheaper than $45/window. Without the moleskins you will get dirt trapped inside the window chanel which will scratch the tint when rolling up and down the windows.

I finally got around to tinting mine today for $189 with 3M tint here in Denver. Corner windows look great, no extra charge. I installed moleskins myself (using the links and DIY found on here). The shop would have charged $20/door to do that for me. Most places here are around $200-250, plus $20-30 for moleskins ($80-120 total), plus $100+ for ceramic, etc.
the cheapest quote I got was actually from a Honda dealership. $195 for all 4 plus rear windshield. not sure exactly what type I got(not ceramic) just standard 35% all around. I also got peace of mind they would stand behind their install if anything happened.

Hey yes that does seem pretty high . I have a 08 tl and tints needed to be done over as well . I was charged 380 for all windows except windshield plus moleskin installation. I'm getting limo tint on back window and two small side windows then 15% on four windows cost me $280 it was an extra $100 to install moleskin. You should definitely shop around a lil more . I have gotten many different quotes on tints all $500 and above finally found a place for cheaper and it looks great

Recently got the wifey's lex tinted all around with 35% tint at a very reputable shop and the total was $218.xx....I had a gift certificate so that took care of the costs

The last car I got tinted, I drove down to Springfield, MO. No idea where in KC to even look.
