Window Tint Woes....

Just had the windows in my 05 tinted with 20% all around, went to go pick it up and it itsits looks like 35%, how can I make sure its 20% before I pay for it? Also, the rear quarters look like crap, you can see where the tint is cut to fit just inside the window from the inside, so from the outside you can see the whole seal on the inside.

Terrible Job for sure, I just wanna make sure when I go complain I can back io my facts because its really light for what looks like 35% after I asked for 20%

ask them to put the tint up against another car without out and test it that way to see the different tint types, and if you have issues with the tint point it out and have them resolve it. I'm sure they will take care of that especially given the cost to pay for tinting. Pics???

also depends what tint they used and your interior color.

I have 20% on the rear windows and they look a lot darker since I have black interior.
My buddy has a white TL with beige interior and 20% tint and his does appear to be a bit lighter. Same brand tint too

they should be able to install the tint on the rear quarter window without showing any gaps.......let me rephrase that... It can be cut so you don't see the gap. All depends if they know what theyre doing.

A light colored interior would affect the way the tint looks from the outside. Definitely get the rear quarter window fixed, if they say they can't do it then that is BS and you should go someplace else.

Okay, I went back and brought some pictures of it done properly, after complaining back and fourth, we settled on $200 cash and walked away, drove straight to another place and they said they would fix it for $40 so I'm going to book an appointment to get it fixed.

The new place I checked out said 20% will be lighter then factory 20% so getting 15% would have been similar to the factory 20% on my MazdaSpeed 6.

Not a huge issue, I'm just going to deal with it for now until the rear windows are fixed.

wow wth. I paid $120 for my tints and they look just like yours and yet they're 35%. I think they definitely ripped you off. I'm surprised you paid them still.

Well technically it was suppose to be free because I got a prepaid tint package for that place as a gift and by the time I had a new car without tint, it was apparently expired so they refused to take it, so I had to pay after it was already applied and I was refusing to take the car unless they fixed the rear quarters so finally he said $200 cash and I can take the rest to get it fixed somewhere else, which this other place said they'll fix the rear quarters for $40 cash

Factory 20%?!? Huh? Never seen any car ever come from the factory with tinted windows. Only suv's which have the rear windows factory tinted...which is typically equivalent to aftermarket 20% film. So what exactly do you mean "factory 20% tint"?, because I know that car did not come from the factory like that.

The MazdaSpeed 6 GT has tinted windows from the dealer, I got it like tthat, it says 20% window tint in the brochure thing, all leather interior models came with tinted windows all around. Only the base model MazdaSpeed 6 came with cloth seats and no tint.

So, it gets worse. Turns out they ripped off the seal for the third brake light.

This is all I can see from my rear view mirror.

And this is from looking directly back, I'm backed up to a pole you can't even see.

I gotta go back tomorrow to see what they're going to do about damages and removing the tint as well as my money back so I can get it done somewhere else.

I didn't but I highly doubt this place even know what kind of window seal that is. I gotta go to Acura tomorrow to get prices for a new passenger window because there's scratches all over it from their poor cleaning job, probably used an old razor to cut costs, I need a new drivers door weather seal as there's a rip in mine now, I need the seal around the third brake light replaced.

Once I have those prices from Acura, I gotta see if this tint place will honor the damage as well as tint removal so I can get it done else where, otherwise I'll have to file a small claims case against them and we'll see where it goes from there.

This is normal for TLs, the seal for the 3rd brake light doesn't sit flush against the window. W/o tinted windows you can't see the light bleed, but w/tint it's def noticeable.

It was a shop that did this? That's terrible. Should get it redone and paid for by them.

Honestly, I don't see anything wrong with your tint besides the rear quarter. That looks 20% to me and you also need to take into consideration that you took that pic of your car with a good amount of sun light hitting it.

There is also a DIY I believe for the third brake "bleed"

I also doubt that your 6 came with factory tint. I'm pretty sure they just had it tinted for you or before hand ........

I think the reason it doesn't look 20% in the pictures compared to the Mazada's tint is probably the type of tint that was used. I'll get a picture of my NBP with 20% all around in the sun and post it. Mine looks just as dark as that Mazda and looks darker than yours especially the interior looking out.

They used what was called "Infinity" tint on my car which was like the 2nd highest grade of tint they sold. It is possible they used the cheaper quality tint on your car. As far as the sides go, a reputable shop should have been able to do that no problem. Also the issue with your tailight should be resolved free of charge.

My recommendation is to keep cool and calm when talking to them. Be polite, kill them with kindness and they'll make it right.

Just got mine done today and they are 15%. Not sure this picture is gunna help much since it's not sunny but my interior is Camel.

Also, as Tlin401 stated, the rear quarter windows looks like they weren't done completely one yours. The guy that just did mine made sure and point out that he does the complete window, most people don't go all the way to the edge of the quarter window.
