Window Tint Scratches?

Got my 04 TL Auto +Nav The first of November...the second day I had it had window tint installed. So here I am this weekend washing it and waxing it and notice a scratch on the film the entire vertical length of the driver window. I am almost 100% sure its from something on the inside of my door when I rolled it down. I also noticed a sorta grinding/tearing noise when I rolled the back passenger window down just lastnight. I am thinking its scratching the film.

Has anyone else seen or heard of this. I have had the same company install tint on every vehicle I have owned for the past 15 years and seriously doubt its their or the films fault.

I've seen others post the same thing about the tint being scratched. I've read someone post that some place refused to tint the windows because it would scratch. I've had mine tinted and don't notice any scratches after a couple of weeks.

What kind of tint are you guys using? I've read some posts that say that some types of tints interfere with the navi system? Have you guys had this problem?

I've supposedly got Llumar Centaur metallic tint and haven't had a problem. I say "supposedly" because is there any way to really know after the install?

I've had my TL tinted for about 3 weeks and have no scratches. I went with Huper Optik (a ceramic film) that does not interfere with the navi. I did have a scare though. My AM & FM channels were not working. Took the car in and the antenna wire was disconnected from the stereo.

I had my vehicle tinted last week. Told them I wanted non-metal, 35% on the sides and 20 on the rear. Instead they used metal and the navi stopped working. Having the rear window re-done this afternoon.
Haven't noticed any scratches yet though.

Angry Scratches also

I have a slight scratch on the drivers window, and now the back two have two each verticle scratches on them.

Can only be seen when sunny out, looking from inside - out.

The dealer had them done, which was a good thing, I think as they damaged the belt molding on the pass rear window of my car.

Unfortunately, it will be hard to fix if the tint is scratching as that is a window design.

Sounds like that one shop that refused to do them is right (I read that post long ago, after the windows were already tinted on my car on 10/6)

both my front windows have 2 stripes going up the tinting now, not sure if they are scratches or just like roller-wheel prints, haven't touched them yet as I hate fingerprints.

And I have 20% metallic tint on my back window and not one change in Navi functioning.

And as for the FM reception scare, the tint goes under the printed antenna, so it wouldn't interfere with it anyway.

My tint is scratched in like six places after less than one week. I can't friggin' believe that the windows are not designed in a way that would avoid this $hit from happening.

Should I go to Acura and complain? The tint shop? Ridiculous situation.

Re: Window Tint

Given the price range in window tints (Huber Optic seems to be one of the best) is there any way to ensure that the "good stuff" was in fact installed, and they are not just ripping you off? Also, if there is there any warranty for scratching, or are you just SOL if you get a scratch running up the window the next day...

When I went to get a quote on my 04TL from a tint shop they quoted me like $325. I asked why did it cost so much. He said it because they need to remove the door panel to install felt so it doesn’t scratch the tint. He said there is a rubber piece in the door that rubs up against the glass and will scratch it if no felt is applied. I think this is what is happening to you guys with the scratched tint.
