Window Tint Idea

Maybe this has been done, but I was driving at night thinking to myself that I wish I had 20% tint instead of 35%. Then I thought that it would suck at night though because I would lose visibility.

Which got me thinking....Why in the hell isn't there any tint that is dark in the day and lightens up at night...I mean...They do it on BluBkockers right?

Obviously it would have to be good quality in order to put on are cars, but you would think that some company out there would have tried it. I can't find anything on the internet though.

Anyway, just a rant. If anyone has info on something like this could you throw up a link.

Thanks.

Hey...Don't laugh at me I'm sensitive.

I have never heard of it before. Apparently Maybach uses it for their sunroofs, but It's a $10,000 option and it uses some kind of electric current to get the job done.

Of course, if it was cheaper I would do it.

I don't know how well the cheap stuff works though.

How cheap is "cheap"?

I'm not laughing at you...I was laughing at myself.

Buy even if MB thinks it's worth spending $10k on some film solely for their moonroof, I say get yourself some Hüper Optik and be done with it?

Think about how much it would cost to get the stuff for the whole car, much less the moonroof.

I am trying to find pricing on some of the film right now.

MB doesn't use film. I just read an article that says it has "Partitioning liquid crystals inside the glass that goes opaque with the click of a switch." <------- I'll save that for when I'm rich.

It is what I had in mind. I would like to see it for real though. Here is their demo. It looks a little shady. Pardon the pun. http://www.refr-spd.com/demo.asp

My wife has the transitional lens on her glasses (dark in sunlight, light indoors). If they do that with car windows, it would be awesome.

+1 my machine shop teacher in high school had transitional glasses and we used to "scald" him for wearing "tinted safety glasses" in the shop

They make photo chromatic glass for office buildings that works just like the transition lenses. I have always wondered why they don't put this on cars, it seems like a no-brainer. I could see it being a challenge for tempered glass since this is a chemical reaction, but the front windshield is always laminated now and they could put the chemicals in there.
