Wide body experiment

Hello, I'm an owner of a 07 TL Type S. I love my car but I'm feeling like creating a Wide body, many people say and think that the tl is not for a Wide body but is not about them its about creating one. I havent find any good one or any that I like. The thing is that I'm gonna create it with fiber glass, might take the whole 2021 because I'm not an expert and it'll cost a lot.

I'm thinking about a Liberty Walk TL, may anyone help me more with ideas and tips to do it? Also if anyone knows the measures in CM would be great. Thank you

some folks have done custom wideboy on facebook/instagram. It's a bit of work but doable.

technically, the TL has some of the widest fender flares...when lowered, the car literally looks like it has shoulders because of the wide fender flares.
Nonetheless, many people have widened the flares EVEN more.
they do this with steel....they cut and weld steel onto the body/fenders.

this is the better way to do it...with steel!

I would suggest learning how to work with metal! learn how to weld!
and since it will be custom, you can decide on any measurement you want!
you get to be in charge of how much fender you want to widen! meaning; you dont need someone else's measurements because you will want to make the measurements for yourself.

Yeah, like Justin said. Steel is better than fiberglass

To add to this:
Ideally steel is the right way to go. Properly welding it to the front and rear quarter panels/fenders.

But if you're going to go with a LB inspired kit... it might be easier to just get a LB kit. Chop it up and mold it directly to the car. Fiberglass and all. CF is a good option. If you're really good you can mold the existing kit to the TL and translate that into a template for metal work.

As for fitment---as Justin stated. It'll be custom. The fitment will entirely depend on your suspension, wheel and tire set up.

I myself am also in the process of molding an existing kit to my TL. I'll be using fibreglass for my first layer followed by alternating layers of carbon fibre and kevlar.

Thats a great idea! I should learn how to molded steel, i will do my best, I do not know how to reply a comment thats why I quote everything. And lowering is something that I won't do so I have more space to work, the thing that the tl is my daily yet, but for sure I'm gonna work with it.

Sorry for my English. I'm not an English speaker, just a Spanish guy living in Florida

his Instagram is dirtyjary and yeah jvz_ua6 is pretty cool we actually live in the same area and have seen it around a few times hopefully I get to check it out in more detail next year. And he has talked about producing kits too about a year ago but not sure what happened. Jvz has also done some custom splitters they look just like artwork bodyshop I've done a set myself but need to switch materials.

Yeah I spoke with him too. He actually asked me for some tips and opinions lol

He and I have very similar taste in mods so it was pretty cool to see him execute his so fast.

Those kits look like ass. IMO, this car has classic, timeless lines that would be ruined by a body kit like that.

Thank you; I wanted to respond earlier but couldn't come up with such an eloquent way of saying what you said. So, "Well said sir!"

I guess everyone has their own opinions but the orange one keeps the stock lines if he just extended it onto the bumpers It would look perfect imo

Or just pull the fenders super far and call it a day

The front bumper is mismatched with the front fenders, and the rear gap lines ruin the kits for me.

Why not just rivet on some fender flares like on the new Charger?

Not that I'd like it, but it's probably easier and gives the car a transformer look.

because it gives the same illusion as the kits shown above...tacked on and not fully integrated...

one would ideally make it look seamless, like it came from the factory wide-bodied. otherwise it looks horrible.

Yeah, bad look for the elegant looking and classic lines of the 3G TL.

It's hard to beat the OEM fender lines. I'm not the biggest fan of any of the options shown above.

Yepp that was the prototype. 19" wheels with big boy tires. Integrated CSL style trunk. I believe it had vented and heated seats. A lot of other goodies.

I'd love to make my wide body or flares like that. But... I kind of want mine to have that Tuner look.

I'd love to get the front fender along the lines of the Spoon S2000:

And have the fender flow straight through the side marker/body line.
I actually tried to buy it... but I didn't want the whole fender. It doesn't come in a flare style. So I opted for something else in hopes to make it similar.
