WHY is my 05 5AT shifting so hard?

while everybody else report smooth shifting?

I had a 03 TL , and the 05 shifts much harder with strong feel of drag and pull throught the car. Is it because I am trying to baby it by not going over 2500 rpm?

Comments appreciated.

I didn't have a G2, I cam from a 94 Legend. My TL shifts smoothly as did the Legend. If it seems to be a problem why not find a different one to compare it to? Either another dealer or a private car should do it.

My 04TL tranny shifts smoother than my 94 Legend... in most of RPMs.

How many miles do you have now? Did you try to rev your engine into varied RPM ranges during the break-in?

Are you talking shifts at wide open throttle? Or just regular, somewhat spirited driving?

Details are helpful in answering you questions --

I had an 03' TL-P that we traded for an 05' TL. They seem to shift the exact same to me. Though the 05' doesn't seem to engine-drag as much as the 03' did when coming to a stop.

Not going over 2500rpm? Wow, that's really conservative... When I was breaking it in, I was trying not to go over 4500 rpm (That's what my Infiniti called out in the manual, so I just applied the same to our TL)

My late build 2004 TL 5 Speed Auto shifts perfect when warmed up, and slightly less good (still good) when it is cold.

I've not any comparison to older or other acuras, but I can honestly say that my 05Tl shifts smoother than my 2000 ES300. I can hardly tell the gears have changed. With the ES I could feel it shift.

I did notice on our 05'TL that every once in a while, when you press the accelerator from a complete stop, the engine sputters for a brief instant before it starts moving. Almost feels like it misfired or something, but there are no strange sounds, nor any malfunction lights. Do other people experience this?

Have my TL about a month now and experiencing uneven idle on cold start ups every day and shifts balky until it's warmed up 5 minutes or so. Bringing it in to have it adjusted soon.

mine started shifting a tad bit harder, a little bit more stiff once i changed the intake to a CAI. not too bad though. not as smooth as before, but it feels more responsive as well. its so slight that i think the average person could not feel the difference even if they were trying

Hard shifts are actually GOOD for your tranny as it indicated less slippage and more power being transferred. I may be caused from different tranny fluids to the ECM sensing your driving habit as being aggressive and adjusting to your style. But I would definite drive another TL just for comparison. Mind shifts pretty smoothly even from day 1. But will shift hard after a period of aggressive driving.

guys, i have the follow-up report here. My 05 shifts smoother when I drive it hard!

Its is so strange. It seems like the tranny is designed to shift at above 3000 rpm!!! And this car loves being maltreated!!

Next time i will bring leather flog and candle when I drive it! haha!

Good to know. Like ppl said above, your car prolly has adapted itself to your driving habit or something. Once you tried to slow down a little bit, it won't let you...
