Would be neck and neck. Whoever gets the better launch (with 5AT that means going before the other person) or uses tiptronic more efficiently.

i think the G35.. has alot more low-end torque (at least the coupe does/feels that way).

performance times are the same for both cars, could go either way. how much do you weigh and how much does your friend?

Welcome to the cult!

I raced my friend's G35 AT and he pulled away at first and second gear. I was able to come back on 3-4gear. It was really close but he edge me by around 3feet. I hate to say it but I got beat!!! I raced him 2 other times and with similar results. The closes I came with him was he edge me by 1feet. Trust me they have really good low end power and our TL starts to pick up on 2-3 gear. By then...its too late the G35 is ahead by a bit. With the new 2005 model 277hp will now doubt kick our butts!! Sorry guys but I let all the TL'ers down!!

Why are you guys so obsessed with racing your TL. It's a beautifull sport sedan, but a race car it's not. People get so crazy about racing their car's, they forget the joy of driving the car and enjoying it's fine quiet ride, excellent sound system, and the sheer joy of driving such a nice car. If you want to race, go buy a race car and enjoy the bone jarring ride, noisy drivetrain, wind noise, and then try and listen to the audio system above all the noise. Personally, I'd rather ride in comfort, AC on, and enjoy my car and not worry about racing a G-35. Who cares??

I agree with JetJock. It doesn't make any difference what kind of car you have, there is always a car out there that can beat your's.

I just sold a G35 I had for a year and a half. The other day I test drove a TL. The G35 does have noticably more low and mid range torque, but the TL really pulls strong as the revs build. I can only go by the road tests and what has been posted above as to how they line up in a race, but I can tell you I think they are very evenly matched.

I agree, too (for what it's worth, which probably isn't much). If you want a really nice ride then get a TL (or the g35). If you want something that's fast for your $30k, then get a sti, evo or even an r32. Just my $0.02. Or wait for the Acura roadster in '07.

Who cares whether the TL can beat a G35. I chose the TL because it looks way better than a G35, awsome engineering/refinement and the car is just plain fun to drive.

Then you have no other choice but to open a can of whoopass once your TL comes in. <lecture on> but keep in mind it's not a good idea to push it too hard until the engine's broken in</lecture off> But that also gives you time to get a CAI installed so you'll be sure to take him.

You're friend is talking a lot of crap because he is jealous. He has speed. You have speed and interior. Many of you guys might be new here but the G35 vs TL debate has been going on for the last 2-3 years. Bascially, to sum up THOUSANDS of posts, it really depends on the driver. Due to the G35's RWD advantage, it should get off to a great start. The TL (or 2nd Gen TLS) will close the gap or maybe even gain a nose because of 3rd gear VTEC. By 100 mph, whoever was leading by 60mph maintains the lead.

Now having said that, I want to say that I have lost to some G35s over the last 3 years but I have beaten many many more than I've lost to. Why? It all has to do with driver reaction and knowing your car well. For example, I know that it's best to avoid 4th and 5th gear in our cars during a race, not that you should need them anyway (100 mph can get your liscense revoked and possibly get you jail time in some states). Also, I know that it takes G35s quite a bit of time to downshif from 4th / 5th gear so you can often use that to your advantage.

BTW, before my friend sold his G35, we went to the track and I beat him there in both trap speed and ET. It was my first time at the track. Shortly thereafter, he sold his car.
