Where do you put your DVD-Audio boxes?

I just got my new TL and it looks like they thought of everything, except that it seems like there is not enough clearance in the arm rest for the DVD-Audio boxes. They fit in the glove compartment but that is a pain. Am I missing something? It seems like that well should be deep enough but the boxes are just tall enough that the are rest doesn't close properly.

That's about my biggest complaint with this car. Isn't that wonderful? I just love it except for this one annoyance.

Thanks in advance.

Even CD cases dont fit very well. The best solution is to buy a cd album where you can put numerous cds ( or dvds) I carry aroud 40 discs in mine and I still have some space left over. BTW try before you buy decause some can be bulky.

I found it easier to buy a pack of the paper single disc sleeves. That way I don't have to carry any boxes and can switch discs while driving (don't really have to look at it while reloading the car). I also tried the half size cd cases which are bulky but you can carry twice as many.

Along those lines, I've noticed that there aren't many DVD-A discs available on the market. Anyone have any great "demo" DVDs that they would like to share? Also, where are you buying them from? I like towerrecords.com.

Lots of DVD-A titles! I received a TL brochure from Acura that included a list of titles, and there were LOTS! When people say there aren't many, I wonder just how many they think are available. There were at least 100 titles in this list.

There are more and more DTS DVD-As on the market every week.

My favorite so far is "Gaucho" by Steely Dan. It was re-mixed to 5.1 by Elliott Scheiner, the same engineer that consulted on the sound system for the TL. This is an AWSOME DVD.

Your Acura dealer can give you a list. It's a bit dated in that there are only a limited amount of titles listed. My understanding is that there are over 800 titles now available and much more due out.

Best buys, Sam Goody and Borders have good DVD-A selections.

The Steely Dan recordings are so good to begin with that any of those must sound great! Donald Fagen of Steely Dan has a couple out as well. One of the Fagen songs is on the demo disc and it's stupendous. I have Hotel California by The Eagles and it's actually DTS, and it sounds extremely good. I have the Lynyrd Skynyrd disc and it the sound is just okay- it's a live recording. LA Woman the old Doors disc has never sounded better, but it's a very old recording and there are some limitations. Riders on the Storm's rain sequence is quite realistic. Pet Sounds by the Beach Boys is quite a unique experience because the orignal recording was mono. Wow, the harmonies come to life!

I do find the DVD-A cases a bit clumsy and not many fit in the armrest or doors. I have a gizmo on my visor that holds the discs and I just put the cases in a container in my trunk.

I ordered Blue Man Group from Amazon, apparently it's the DVD-A to have to demonstrate it's ability. That's what I've read anyways.

Some DVDs

I just received my order from tower records. The DTS album, "DMP Big Band - Glenn Miller Project" is absolutely amazing if you like this genre of music. Highly recommended, and it's funny given that my first "demo" CD was "In the Digital Mood" way back when.

I also received an album, "Dave Grusin - Two For the Road - The Music of Henry Mancini" which SHOULD have titles such as Peter Gunn and The Baby Elephant Walk. What's interesting is that instead of 10 tracks of Dave Grusin, what's actually on the DVD is four tracks of classical music that I don't recognize. Seriously, the DVD label matches and everything looks right, but what's on the album is not what the cover says. Bizarre.

Third DVD purchased was "The Super Audio Collection & Professional Test Disc" from Chesky Records. This has songs like Brick House and Isn't She Lovely in DTS. It plays great in my home DVD player, but the Acura won't recognize the format. It spits the disc out right after I insert it. The disc label says, "This disc is only playable on DVD Audio and Advanced Audio Players." So I don't think this is an SACD or anything. But the Acura won't allow it. Bummer.

Picked up Pat Benatar Live DVD-A at Best Buy last night and it really rocks.

Will probably try Fleetwood Mac "Rumours" next time.

I bought the Corrs and Fourplay. The latter is good as a demo and unfortunately I didnt read a revue on the Corrs dvd first - it sucks. Automatic for the people by R.E.M is a great DVD (I have the CD as well). Music is good and its good as a demo as well wise.

I bought a Mozart from Silverline. The case said it was DTS 5.1. My car player just wouldnt play it though. Showed the word "format" on the display. Does anyone know is that a format that doesnt work in the Acura?

Does it have a DVD-Audio (not just DVD) logo on the disc or printed material?

My guess is that it doesn't, and that if you examined the contents of the disc directly (on a computer) you would find that all of the contents are in the VIDEO_TS directory, and that makes it a DVD Video that the TL won't play, because that display is exactly what you'll get if you put in a DVD movie.

If it _is_ a DVD Audio, then I'd start complaining to Acura about it.

Here is a link to the DVD I purchased (and luckily was able to return). As far as I can tell this should have worked in the car?

Re: Mozart, the description reads like a regular old DVD that has DTS sound, rather that being a DVD-A format. The giveaway is that you can enjoy the "visual selections" as well. As we know, then DVD-Video format isn't compatible with this system.

The description only references DTS and Dolby Digital 5.1 tracks; no high resolution audio, and nowhere does it describe the disc as "DVD-Audio". I agree that this is a DVD-Video masquerading as an audio selection.

Make sure to look for the "DVD-Audio" logo on anything you buy to play in the TL.
