Acura Dealership, Honda Dealership, or national chain (Goodyear, Jiffy Lube)?

Been going to them for some time now.

dealership : 6 oil changes for $100 = 16 bucks each.
Can't beat free specialty coffee machine and comfort of ease.
Althoughl some owners rather do it by hand and use high end stuff.

There is just no way I would let someone else change my oil. I do it in my driveway for all three of my vehicles.

I've taken mine to the dealer both times, but that's only because I was having rattles fixed at the same time...$40, synthetic, drop off and pick up after work w/ a loaner for the day. Haven't decided about going forward...there's a place near my house (Havoline, I think) that I took my old car to for years...good and reliabable...still get my inspections there.

My Garage, Inc.

4 bucks per quart at CostCo, and I'm always on the look out for good deals on filters. Last filter I got was K&N and I got it for like 4 bucks. On average, it comes out to about 25-30 bucks using synthetic and a good filter. There was a time when I used to pay 60 bucks for that... no more.

My local Honda dealer (Willis Honda in Burlington, NJ). I've been going to them for the past 3 years or so. I bring them the Mobil 1 oil and M104 filter. I will be going to them for the timing belt and water pump when it's due (another 1 year)- I was quoted $750 including parts and labor. I only go to Acura for warranty service. An oil change at Honda is ~ $15.

I can't stand letting someone else change my oil; it's too easy to do myself, saves money almost equal to a tank of gas and I never have to worry about someone screwing it up.

If you go to Jiffy Lube, watch out. I took mine there in a rush and they got more oil inside my car than in the engine.

If you go to a Jiffy Lube try to at least make sure its corp. owned instead of franchise. The guys are trained a little better and get cracked down on when they make any type of mistake.

Speedy Oil change for Mobil One at $55 a pop.

After reading some of these posts though, maybe I should check with the local dealer.

From a wash, to a motor rebuild, I do it all.

Mobil 1 filter $10.00?
6 quarts of 5w20 oil $10.00.

My garage.

- music is always good
- beer is always cold
- Castrol 5W-20 (99cents/qt from PepBoys)
- Pure One filter (not sure of cost - they always seem to put the cheaper Purolators on sale! )

and No appointments necessary.

My husband changes the oil in all our cars. For the TLs first oil change, we did go by the dealership and get the Honda filter and used Mobil-1 5W-20.

I go to the dealership. Doesn't cost anything—they gave me free oil changes when I bought the car (and I've confirmed it by taking it in for just an oil change one time). Hence a major reason why I take it there!

I do my own. It runs about $15 for an OEM filter and five quarts of Motorcraft 5W20 blend. I like to combine the oil change with other "chores" and I let it drain until it stops dripping out. That takes about an hour.

My wife's car is even less, her Accord gets regular Purolator oil filters ($1 after rebate at Pep Boys) and 4.5 quarts of Havoline 5W30 every 5000 miles. That's about $8 per change!

I love being cheap!

I have to get all of my service performed at the dealership; including oil changes. If I do this during the life of the factory warranty, the dealership will extend the powertrain warranty to 70,000 miles.

Don't exactly know how much the oil change is; I have the first scheduled for next Friday along with emissions testing and the total is $74...

Acura extended the powertrain warranty for an additional 2 years/20,000 miles on the 2006 TL model, maybe I should have waited a couple of months.

Just had my oil changed at the dealership this past Thursday. The total came out to be $9.xx. When I bought the car my dealership told me that I get "free" oil changes for life except that I have to pay for the filter. How is that free?? I guess it should be clearly stated that its free oil changes. Thinking about asking for the Mobil 1 oil and filter the next time I need an oil change.

Just got my first oil change for free. On the receipt it show something like $28 bucks. I assume they use regular oil. I normally change my oil myself but if it cost less than $30 bucks for an oil change from the dealer I rather have them do it. No oil spill in my driveway or the hassle of dumping the oil at a recycle center. Also since the dealer does it, there's no question as to any warranty issues. My friends TT oil change is like $120, granted they use synthic but $120
No wonder the TL is number one for reliability and maintance in it's class.

Yes, I was aware and I knew that when I bought my 05 in November; I suppose because of Acura extending for the 06's, that is why the dealership did it with the 05's as an incentive. And I've always taken my cars to the dealerships for service anyway, so it all works out.

As silly as it sounds (because I've read the threads re: horspower issues 05 vs. 06), but even though I was aware of the decrease in hp on the 06's and was explained about the rating system....it still just felt "better" to have the 270 than the 258 - whether or not it makes a difference, it's all about what made me feel good about buying the 05. And that was specifically why I did; there were only 2 2005's w/ navi on the lot - I could have bought the 06 I test drove which was the NBP, camel interior w/ navi - but, I sacrificed and went for the 05. An idiot move by some....a good move for others.

Ever since the Honda dealership forgot to tighten the drain plug on our Civic, I always do my own oil changes. It's not fun pulling out of your garage and seeing a puddle oil sitting there I'm just glad that the plug didn't drop when we were on our trip to Tahoe.
