Question When to wax

Hi,
New owner of an '06 NBP TL, and was wondering what would be an acceptable time to wait before I wax my vehicle. Not sure how the paint was cured and whether waxing to early will damage the finish. Thanks in advance.

Can I use the Polish & Glaze on my newcar?

Certainly! But you should wait at least 6 weeks from the day car was painted before you apply anything, including car wash! Soft fresh paint needs time to "air dry" and harden. After 6 weeks you may only need washing and waxing.

Polish is usually not needed yet unless the dealer prep caused swirl marks and scratches you'd like to remove. The manufactured date should be stamped on a small plate located on the driver's side door frame.Check the build date....I am sure you are just fine to wax anytime! If it has been at least 8 weeks....I would go for it? And I bet it has been more time than that!!

gpr123, I would just ask your Acura Service Rep., that way, if for some weird reason something does go crazy with the paint, your covered because you were under advisement from the dealer.

The paint on the TL seems thinner that my older cars and some of the discussions on this forum seem to back that up. Anyway, the paint on these cars is heat baked at the factory so wait time is very short. If your still worried, give it a couple of weeks or two in good weather and that should be sufficient. You can also check the build date of your car to determine how old the paint is.

Happy motoring!

As requested by MB, I edited his post so the text is readable. Ctrl+A worked for me too, but this is easier. Of course, I also had to edit CA's post. Next time, MB, remember you are only a PM away from help.

Sorry to contradict everyone but factory paint is oven cured at the factory .. you can wash/polish/wax the day you get it ... a time frame is only needed if bodyshop work is done later. I clayed and polished and sealed mine 3 days off the truck ..

Ok...back to this one....what I would be concerned about is a possible repair or touch up that the dealer may have done prior to you taking delivery on the vehicle...so in fact, it could, unbeknownst to you, have a new paint area or spot. This happens from time to time in delivery, although these days they go to some lengths to protect against this, it does still happen. When it does...these cars are simply repaired at the dealer level and sold as new. Happens from time to time. If you were to wax the car too early...then it would show through at a later date. Happened to my dad a while back ago on a Lincoln. Repair was good...you'd have never known other than he waxed it too early and it came out in the paint later as it had not cured right. This is why I say...wait a minute before waxing. BUT....if you are damn sure...and feel confident that there was no hidden damage during transit or at the dealer level....by all means....I would go for it!! But....if you feel like you may be one of those "why does this kind of stuff always happen to me" kind of people and like to stay on the safe side...I might wait?
