What're you looking to replace the TL with?

I've been contemplating what the next vehicle in the line up will be, for myself. I've been all over the place! Not sure what or when I'll trade up; it's been a while, and for those of you who don't recall...I was ever SO CLOSE to picking up 1 07 TL-S WDP from Acura of Lynnwood, and then 1 ASM 06 TL 6MT from a private owner (the car freaking had under 10k on it, if I remember correctly). Anyways, both fell through . I've been back and forth about the 4G TL SH-AWD. It's definitely grown on me and at one point, that was the car that was I was hoping to get next - 6MT of course (DEFINITELY hard to walk away from Acura of Lynnwood's service department AND the smoking price that I could most LIKELY get for a new one)! But then, I drove the G37S. I've come to the conclusion that I want something sporty, without the hefty price of a new 335i (it's unreliable anyways, or so it is in my mind - what I keep telling myself so I don't feel bad haha). I THINK I might be settled on the G37S, but I'm still hunting. There isn't much out there unfortunately, the test drive I took of it...was unusual; it was SLOW for some odd reason - dealer didn't have any 2010, so I took a spin in a pre-owned 2008. Definitely a fun car, but it wasn't as quick as I thought it would be. Definitely slower than the 335i. I honestly felt like my TL had more torque; doubt I could've kept up with it though. It just didn't throw you back into the seat as I thought it would have... meh...confused...

So...just out of curiosity, for those interested in switching it up, any ideas of what you're looking to get into next? G37S, IS350...?

On the way to AC yesterday, while on the Parkway we passed a 4GTL, and at first it almost scared me to death as I thought it was going backwards. They've got to be one of the ugliest cars on the road, but of course we've said that before.
If money wasn't an object I'd look at a used 2008 Cadillac CTS-V, which was the first year, I believe, for the 550 HP engine. A 2007 has 400HP and is very reasonable, maybe low $30's and around 10,000 miles, with higher miles they will drop into the $20's and if certified, they will come with a 6yr 100,000 mile warranty.
Having said that, everyone's taste is certainly different, so I'll presume that you'll be able to make a decision based on your likes or dislikes just by driving the vehicles that are appealing to you.

Lexus GS, BMW 3/5 series, Audi A/S5, or Hyundai Genesis.

3G is one of the nicest cars I've ever had, it would be tough to match it's interior, exterior, it's power AND price. It's like how Michael Jackson spent the rest of his life trying to TOP Thriller, and he couldn't.

But my 3G won't live forever, and I hate choosing between Luxury/Power and Price/reliability. It's seems the TL had it all in sync.

I think I am going to go with BMW. I've always wanted a good reliable BMW, and i think BMW is starting to get the hang on reliability. So i'll probably get the X5 (seating for 7, good for kids), or X6 if my wife lets me.

Audi S5 as a weekend car.

In hopes to preserve the TL.. Once I pay my loan off I'll get a beater winter SUV and make the TL a summer car.

I will have had my '04 manual TL for six years this coming July 17th and I have no thoughts of selling or trading it. The car still puts a smile on my face, entertains me, and I look forward to driving it. As long as those criteria continue to be met, I will most likely keep the car. Still like the OP, I do like to consider my options should the time come.

As I write this, I like the Cadillac CTS-V a great deal. However, I am now retired so I would not wish to have $700+ car payments and I don't want to dip into my investment reserves for a car. That leaves three others that impress me.

The G37 Sport is nice but can be on the expensive side when the desired options are in place. Still it does satisfy that craving for a sport sedan. It's only downside is the rather low torque numbers but it is only a 6-cylinder after all - but a really good one.

I wish Ford would finish the job with the Fusion. It is almost there with a super engine in its Sport version, but it needs more cubic inches and thus, more power and torque. And it really needs a manual transmission. I'm a little surprised they haven't taken those steps since they have a history of doing so.

The new 2011 Mustang with its larger, new engine fascinates me. Now the "standard" GT has gotten really serious. With 412 HP and nearly 400 lb/ft of torque, this car should be another Mustang winner. I would go there for this one.

As for the 3G TL, Acura had their moment in the sun with this car. Think about it for a moment. How many cars do you see that look really good from every angle? I mean every angle - going and coming. The 3G TL is one of those. Exterior, interior... the 3G was a winner in every sense. What it has done for many of us, I'm sure, is to raise the bar and along with that, our expectations in our next car. Is that bad? Not on your life.

Obviously since I'm a new owner (and I have an SUV too to offset the miles) I have no intention (nor the funds) of getting a new one anytime soon, but if I were getting something else it would be either a Camaro SS or Corvette.

Not much else other than the TL-S really catches my eye in the luxury/sport category...maybe the Audi S5.

I'm going to be keeping the TL for a long damn time (maybe another 5-10 years) but I will be buying a new car within the next 2-4 years; either an M5 or an E63.

Why are you even getting rid of it? Is it old and broken or is it that you can't be happy with what you have?

My next car will be a truck of some sort.

If I were buying today, probably a G37x. I would also consider the Lexus GS AWD, but it's expensive and I'm not sure I'd want to spend that much.

Lexus IS is too small, unless you are a woman, or under 5'6".

S4, M3 & CTS-V are on the top of my list. I probably won't replace the TL for a while though.

Year six with my TL will be here in a couple of months, but surprisingly, I don't have a great desire to get rid of it (as I had with previous cars starting around year three). That said, I still plan on getting rid of it in a few years. However, the list of possible replacements is short: 2011 Mustang GT convertible or a Cayman. The Challenger will get added to the list if the next generation goes on a diet and gets a serious increase in visibility.

My lease is up in Feb 2011. My first choice would be a killer deal on a 4g but if not I may end up buying my 08. After that I will consider the usual suspects (CTS, Infiniti, Audi, BMW) and even look at the Taurus SHO/Mustang GT. The best lease deal may earn my business. Of course, alot may depend on gas prices. If over $4 a gallon, I may be looking to downsize to something like a Fusion Hybrid.

yea i guess im not at the age where the interior is a big concern.. as long as it stays clean and looks neat its with me.

the exterior/reliability of my car is 95% of my purchase reasoning. the other 5% is like, gas mileage and price

I will be definitely stepping up to my next car. Waiting till I have a $55K budget (In about 2 yrs.)

I am an ex-BMW owner and the brand is calling me back. A lightly used M3 or M5 or maybe the 2011 535ix is calling my name. (Well it'll be 2012 by that time, lol)

I got an ich for a benz, loving the luxury lately and I am only 22 years old. I am thinking next summer I am either staying in a TL and getting a summer car (350z most probably), or selling my TL and adding it to the summer car money and getting a E-Class. Loving the 05-06 E500.

It's been hit (hit and run) a total of 7 times, including the one that just happened on Bellevue last month. You tell me if it's a good idea...haha
Its also been, unfortunately, in a 2 rather large accidents - hit by a viper going crazy on the freeway and then rear ended by a sheriff's patrol car...shes been through a LOT...

You wouldn't be interested since I won't be getting a manual . Besides, the Porsche is actually my second choice/fall back car. I figure the 2015 Mustang's specs will be out by then, so if it ends up being what it's rumored to be (smaller, lighter, IRS, DCT, same engine) AND looks good, I'll get the Porsche and wait for the Mustang. If they brick like Chevy is going to with the next gen Camaro (T6 instead of V8), I'll get the 2011 and snag a Cayman down the road.

I've always wanted an American V8, a convertible, and a Porsche (albeit a 911). However, I'm over the luxury thing, so the American V8 is at the top of the list.

Good point...it's never been totalled. A lot of the damage repairs have involved repainting, new bumpers (front and rear) and replacement of tails. They don't sum the total damages when they do estimates based on the value of the car AFTER accidents, do they (aka the depreciated value due to accidents)?

Hm...

I'm thinking of trading in this summer while my '04 still has some decent value (and remaining extended warranty). I like the TL so much though, I think I will try to find an '08 TypeS with low miles. Might also consider the 4G TL SH-AWD 6MT

I'm so torn between the choices for my next car which will be in the summer.

TL-S made me hate sedans; The rattling, the horrible engineering... I had literally replaced a lot of things to truly enjoy the car as it was meant to be. But again, it is the best entry-luxury sports sedan you'll ever find for the price.

I need a comfy car but with tons of handling, I must feel the road. I had FX prior to my TL, I loved the room, the traction, but it cost me an arm and a leg to fill up, and I didn't like the constant exhaust noise.

BMW, nice cars, but they are lacking that grin that I desire, sorry I'm not going for M package to achieve it.

Benz, sweet ride, tons of cool features, very very smart car and suspension, but I can only pull a humble E-class.

Audi, the sexiest vehicles on the roads, period; but my boys who own mechanics shops, I see Audis there daily.. the electronics on them is disastrous.

Lexus, toooo soft, I hate it. GS-F? Sure, 80-90K? hell no.

American made cars, no thank you. My TL has showed me what it means to be made in Ohio.

Infiniti, I've owned two prior, very sporty machines, but dull inside. I get bored easily.

Better brands I can't afford. Lower brands I won't even consider.

Probably will end up going with a 5 series, an European Delivery deal. I really love the x6, but that thing is the same size as a 3 series, but it's sooo sexy.

IF Acura decides to smarten up and give us a coupe like the former CL, I'll be all over it.. maybe be the ZDX, but 13-16mpg in 3.7 engine does not excite me.

For the OP you could look at an e46 m3(good price and great fun/luxury combo), an e39 M5(400hp and good price + good reliability IIRC) the new Taurus SHO, or the new mustang GT (hell even the base v6 mustang has over 300hp now).

Yea, I was surprised at how bland, plasticy, and butt ugly the interior of the Vettes were. I was like do not want. For all intents and purposes, I chose the Acura for the aviation like interior and it's reliability.
