Question What is VTM-4, really?...

Is it the permanet all-wheel drive? Or it only occurs when needed?

When we talk about 05RL and future TL, why Acura cannot have better AWD system? Perhaps, VTM-4 AWD is better...?

Anyone can help?

its a hybrid awd system. its mostly front wheel drive but when the car detects there might be traction problems it transfers power to the rear wheels. its designed to be fuel efficient while retaining awd functionality.

VTM 4 is an electronic clutch system. When the computer detectect slip of the front wheels it will proportionaly send power to the rear tires up to a predetermined max. It is essentially a sophisticated version of the system used in the Pontiac Aztek. Therefore, the system works in FWD most of the time unless wheel slippage occurs.

Also, when launching or accelerating under heavy loads, the computer sends power exclusively to the rear wheels if there is adequate traction. This eliminates torque steer.
