What to use to clean tailpipe?

I have an 07 TL Type S and was wondering what products everyone is using to clean the quad exhaust tailpipes. I currently use only soapy water and they don't seem to get as shiny as I'd like.

I use a metal polish that I had since I worked for a wheel company. I think the best kind of polish is the swab kind that you can tear off and it lasts a good while.

If you are talking about cleaning the black stuff off... Chimney cleaner works best... I forget what it's called, but you can get a bottle of chimney soot remover... It removes the black stuff from your exhaust tips without any elbow grease at all...

I make a special mix that a detailer told me about.

I goto Home Depot and buy a big gallon of Simple Green. I then take a squirt bottle filled with 1/2 Simple Green and 1/2 Water and mix it around. That cleaner works on everything such as the skid marks on the bottom of door panels from peoples feet, brake dust on wheels and the muffler tips.

Stuff works like magic!

Hands down, the best all around rust/carbon build-up/oxidation/metal polish $7 can buy you and it last forever! You can use it on S. Steel, chrome, Aluminum....basically anything metal thats not painted. I use it on my pipes and they still glitter. You buff it in and buff it off. Go try it! Or go to K-mart and open the can and take a small wad of it(it is basically cotton with chemical and some scrubby stuff on it) and stick it in your pocket non-challantly And go try it on a pipe or 2. I promise you will not be disappointed.

I use a product called "Bar Keepers Friend" with a microfiber towel if the tailpipes are still dirty after washing, we originaly bought it to polish our stainless steel cookware but it seems to work great on almost any metal surface.

I agree with Simple Green 50/50 mixture or you can use it non-diluted! This stuff works great on anything that's dirty. If you have never tried it, I suggest buying a bottle.

I like the fact it's not acidic, I would use simple green and water with a scotchbrite to clean exhaust valves on my sleds...Them things are nastier than anything you'll find at the tail end of a TL, cheggumout in the pic below.

If I got lazy, or cold it'd bring out something a little tougher, Castrol Super Clean... But use the Castrol stuff sparingly and be ready to rinse as soon as it's wiped or brushed, it is acidic. The Castrol stuff would cloud aluminum, so I only use it on plastic or metal pieces and again very sparingly.
