Positives and Negatives of and 04-06 vs an 07

So yesterday had my 2004 TL non-navi in for a couple of things and the dealer gave me an 07 non-navi as a loaner. I noticed a couple of things that I liked and a couple of things that I didn’t like in the 07 vs my 04 - wanted to see what you all liked and disliked.

-I like the gauges and the gauge pods more in the 07, they look more grown-up.

-I like the MID in the 07, the letters look better but they are smaller and I would imagine harder to read for those with fading eye sight. Moving the MID controls to the wheel makes it easier to access too, that’s a plus.

-The 04 steering wheel is thicker and I really like that a lot. I would rather have the 04 wheel and not have the MID controls on them.

-This most likely only applies to non-navi TLs but the 04-06 center stack is way cleaner than the 07. I think that the 07 radio and climate control displays look cheap, although I would like the compass feature in my car. For that matter I would like navi but that is something that I just would never use.

So what do you think? What else do you guys like and dislike from the 04-06 to the 07?

I don't like the 07 gauges better than the 04-06. They look like the 7th gen civic (that I hate)...

I do like the 07 non-nav screen better, but the blue LCD says 80's alarm clock.

The 07 has ugly wheels compared to the 04-06...

No 6-speed option outside of the Type-S...

I like the fact that 07's have DPL2 decoding and can make a simulated 5.1 sound out of any format. for 04-06 you need DVD-A to make a use of all speakers

BTW the DVD-A format is as dead/dated as the tape deck in the TL. I would rather have things like RDS or DSP systems instead.

I like the gauges in the 07 better because they have a more metallic look, but the counter to that is they are more "racer boy" looking I guess

07 steering wheel > 04-06! I don't completely hate four spoke wheels but the three spoke looks a lot more sporty

I am 100% jealous that the 07 has mp3 capability.. I can't afford a $38k car payment so no mp3 for me

The new non-navi screen looks better I think; the previous one looked kinda crappy and cheapish

I got another 07 loaner today and like the three spoke steering wheel but not that it's thinner. The wheels are growing on me.

Does the 07 AT have different gear ratios? It seems to rev more freely and higher in each gear without going faster. If I remember correctly my 06 revs just above 2K at 75-80. This morning I noticed the 07 revving around 2K in the 60's in 5th. The 07 feels sportier with less lugging/droning.

The starter is also much quieter. Oh, and the key is cool

Good thing: I like 07 NAVI more than 04-06

Bad thing: there is no hack for Trip Computer/OK button for 07 NAVI (yet).

The only thing I like better about the 07, than my A-spec 04 is the 3.5 option.

- I like the gauges of the 07s A LOT more. The numbers on the speedometer are MUCH clearer than the 04-06. I live in Canada, and sometimes I drive down to the states. I find that the little mph numbers on the 04-06s are literally impossible to read, whereas the 07s are very clear.

- I like the auto headlights of the 07s. I don't understand why 04-06s don't have one. Even our 98 Toyota Sienna has one, and isn't Acura supposed to be a more luxurious brand than Toyota? Acura is so behind on these stuffs!

- I like the switchblade key of the 07s. But again, Acura is SO behind on these stuffs. When an Altima, which costs like $20K CDN less than the TL, has the smart key, Acura must do something about it!

- I like the foglight placement of the 07s.

- I like the mp3 capability of the 07s.

imho- the only thing I like about the 04-06 TL vs. the 07 is that you can get a manual tranny. for 07- you have to get an S if you wanna row your own boat. - and no- i don't want to start an auto v. manual debate

Things I like better about the 07:
New fog lights in bumper/redesigned bumper
New tail lights- too much red before
Gauges are easier to read and more classy/sporty-the metal look matches with
the other trim
The information display is located in the middle and easier to read
New non-navi screen! This is a huge improvement
Three spoke steering wheel has a more sporty feel
Addition of more steering wheel controls
MP3 playback
Turn signals in side mirrors- very classy
I like the wheels on both the 07 and on the 04-06
New color Carbon Bronze Pearl!!!

Things I dont like:
There is no switch for the daytime running lights Thats why I pulled
the fuse!
I wish there were more blue colored lights in the interior- oh well
I really like the anthracite color of the previous years too bad they got rid of it
The wheels are too bright of a silver/white color- I would prefer a darker silver

Yes and most people miss this...it is a better tranny and can hold first in SS where the others could not...the 07 AT can handle more torque...shift points "seem" to be a little more agressive??? The TL-S may have brought about the change...?

I like the overall styling of the 04-06 better. Aside from the red gauges, I like the internal mechanics and electronics of the 07 better.

The only thing I *really* want is the updated navi.

I've never driven an 04-06 TL so i can't really judge that. But look wise I love 07 a whole lot more.

Cooler Keys

Cooler Gauges

Nicer Rear Lights

I also like the new front lip on the 07

Oh yeah the rims are a lot better too

dont like the mesh grills behind the center & lower pieces.
dont like the shiny blingy chrome center grill
dont like the fog lights down there
the lower grill on the 07 S looks cluttered and bulgy as opposed to the slim and sleek of the <06 aspec
dont like the blingy mirror turn signals.
dont like 3 spoke steering wheels (i often drive with one hand bottom center)
definitely dont like the rims.
I DO like the 07 S tails, rear side markers, and shift knob...which is why I installed them on my 06...
I do like the 07 front headlights, but at 800 or something a piece, not worth it just for the additional projector...
Upgraded engine would be nice, but this is always a hp vs mileage decision and I wont complain too much about having better mileage over additional hp...

Basically a lot of us already had most of the mods that the 07 imitated, except I get to pick and choose which things i want to reverse fit into my 06.

2 cents

I test drove and felt out the 07 TLS, IS350, and G35 Sport sedans... lexus is too small, acura not enough tech, new Infiniti G35 looks like a baby M35/45...an amazing car that poops on not only both the acura and the lexus, but the BMW 330 as well...a vast improvement over the 03-06 G35... crazy crazy features set it apart big... backup camera, smart key, 18" wheels, touch screen navi, 9.5 GB harddrive holds 3000 songs, 306 HP, more luxurious...really couldve used an option for cooled seats but i guess they had to leave some point in buying an M...

Things The '07 Has I Wish My '04 Had

- The Backup Camera
- Nav Traffic
- 3 Times the # of Voice Commands
- The Turn Signal Mirrors
- MP3 Ability
- The Carbon Bronze Pearl that was already available in Canada since '05 and is on every other '06/7 Civic I see on the road.

But Acura still left out the INSTANTANEOUS MPG GUAGE which has been part of the Accord Nav Trip Computer since '03

I recently traded my '05 TL 6MT for an '07 Type "S" AT CBP, and the differences are pretty dramatic IMO. First thing you notice is the more isolated ride. At 2/10's, the handling doesn't seem as good as the '05, but as you begin to push it beyond 4/10's, it begins to shine. Doesn't have the "floaty" sensation when going over heaves in the road at speed. Steering is heavier, which is emphasized with the thicker steering wheel.
The '07 doesn't seem as quick. but I really haven't gotten into it during break in. Gas mileage is a little disappointing, but will probably get better after first oil change. The electronics and technology are fantastic. I didn't have the Nav. on my '05. I believe the '07 has thicker glass, and higher insulating values. It is noticeably quieter. A step more towards luxury, rather than sport, which is OK by me.
Will know more after some more miles.

My 04 has a noticeably thicker wheel than the 07 TL (NON typeS), anyone agree?

I'm not too crazy about the 07 aero kits, in fact, I don't like them - fogs included. Both of my 03 TL-S lights took a rock, so I don't like the low hanging fogs anymore. I don't like the way the kit looks in the back either. I love the 06 kits, however. I only wish my 06 had the following that the 07 has:

The Backup Camera (definitely pissed about that one)
Navi Traffic
MP3 Ability, or rather at least be able to utilize the text function
The amount of Voice Commands

You can go on the Acura website and download a PDF of the entire Owner's Manual and the entire Navigation Manual. The navi man lists the voice commands, and it's my understanding that there are hundreds more than there used to be...along with some that aren't even documented. And no, they're not all related to traffic update. Check it out.

Hey thanks!

I've been looking for this for a long time (I don't own a TL yet). Can you post the link to the Owner's Manual also?

I'm in the process of getting a 06 MDX navi dvd drive. I'm gonna see if the 04-06 HU + the 06 MDX dvd navi drive combo. will make everything work and play mp3 format disc.

Correction.... 07 type S HU + 06 MDX dvd navi drive combo.... I already have all the wiring done for my car to incorporate the 07 HU.... all I need now is the 06 MDX navi dvd drive with the updated navi dvd disc. the original dvd navi drive that came with the car won't recognize the newer in-dash dvd changer in the new 07 HU. and the 07 TL dvd navi drive requires the new XM/HFL module. plus the 06 MDX dvd navi drive have a plug for the oem backup camera. i'm hoping this will work

good of 04-06, no DRL, no foglight, and in my opinion the a-spec kit looks a lot better, gauges.

good of 07 - exterior paint color options, 3.5 liter, traffic, backup
