What is the sensor on dash in front of driver

I owned an 04 and 06 TL and now a 07 TL and there is some sensor now at front of dash at base of windshield in front of driver. I don't see a reference to it anywhere, what is it? My friend thinks it is the Navi GPS antenna, I told him that is in the rear deck.

I believe that is the sun sensor for the climate control system.

Sounds like you mean there is an additional sensor not present on the 04-06s ? I hear the 07 has fully automatic on/off headlights so that must be the light sensor for the new feature.

I'm confused if he meant that all his TLs have had the sensor or just his 07.

The 04-06 has a sunlight sensor on the right side, directly in front of the passenger. It doesn't have a sensor on the left side in front of the driver, so the sensor in the 07 is new, and if I know rfb351, he is correct in what he said about the auto headlights.

It senses owners who do not RTFM. When detected, radiation is emitted in a downward direction from the steeting column causing the owner's berries to glow in the dark for a while and then turn black and fall off.

Happy New Year.

So, what's the possibility of adding this to our 04-06's? I wonder if it's a simple automated on/off bypass switch?

I had auto on lights in my 99 Silverado .. none on the 03 Passat .. nor the 06 TL .. and you know ... its a nice feature and I still miss it but it would turn on the headlights when I drove into the garage .. is this short term on/off going to bother the ballasts?

Can someone snap a picture of it and can it be retrofitted to the '04 TL?

it's going to take more than just the sensor to make it work

you will need a new light stalk, the "brain" and sensor, also the wiring to hook it all up. if you really need this option, get something aftermarket

What I woudl like to do is make it more sensitive, I hate that at dusk I am still on DRLs a lot, I like headlights as soon as sun is on horizon, I may find a way to put somehting slightly hazy right over the sensor.
