Wow thats actually really embarrassing. I mean they can put Jaguar and Saab on the list but not Acura? Who buys a Jaguar or saab anymore? That makes Acura look pretty bad actually.

Jags are still very nice cars, I just wouldn't consider them an affordable luxury car.

Acura still lacks the prestige of the brands on the list. Most people see Acura as a nice car at a bargin price...that's where the problem is. When people ask me about what kind of car they should buy, the first words out of my mouth are "if you want a nice car for cheap, get an Acura." And it's true, Acura pretty much under cuts everyone in the luxury market. Much like how companies like Hyundai is under cutting everyone in the market and putting out decent cars.

Acura=bargin luxury
luxury and bargin dont quite mix.

Wow, that is kinda annoying. I mean I don't get how a Jaguar X-Type, Saab 9-3, or the Volvo C30 made the list, and that over a TL. I know a TL isn't the perfect car, actually it kinda is, but I know they're nicer than a C30 and even the X-Type(Friend's dad has one). But whatever, I love the TL haha

That's odd that it isn't considered a luxury car bc in motortrend the TL is a compeditor for cars like BMW 3series, Audi A4, and Infinity G. What gives!!!

It is indeed amazing that the TL is not on that list, particularly because it is not exactly a slow seller.

I think this illustrates a problem Acura has in the public eye. Is it invisible except to Honda owners?

The TL should take the G37's or the Volvo C30's spot. Do they factor in quality and value into these articles?
I love how they list the starting prices on these cars. Let's list the price after you add on just a few of the options people who buy these cars want. That's already done w/ the TL. Oh well, at least we know that we got a lot more for our money and others are just buying a brand...

I saw this list a while ago. Yeah I do agree to add Infiniti and Lexus is a kick to the nads. The silver lining is that it's Forbes and not a reputable car mag.

first thing that comes to my mind when thinking beemer is overpriced. And if it IS affordable, it isnt going to be 'luxurious', more like a stripped down base model.

Amen. I don't concern myself with other opinions. Jaguar? Good luck there. A friend of mine had one and it practically lived at the dealer's service area. I'm happy with my 06 TL.

The TL should be on the cover page for that story! It is one of the MOST affordable entry level luxury cars on the market. The sales figures speak for themselves- second to BMW.

Since it is obvious to the majority of us that the TL provides a good level of Luxury and lots of other "goodies" at a great price, there can only be (IMHO) 2 possible explanations for why the TL missed the list:

1. The Acura brand does not extend far enough UP the luxury/$ scale. Almost every brand listed has cars at $60k+ available.

2. Acura doesn't advertise enough in Forbes.

The cynic in me chooses number 2.

The cars listed are the least expensive car from each manufacturer's line up. If Acura had to make it on, TSX (RSX?) would have been listed.

The majority of cars were < 35K with a few exceptions. Based on that cutoff, the TL should have been at least considered.

I did a quick survey of the cars listed and it seemed that the majority of the cars listed were European: Saab, Bmw, Benz, Rover, Audi, and Porshe. A couple were domestic and a couple were Japanese. I imagine if the split was more even across the continents then Acura would have gotten a spot with the TL. We all know that the TL is both affordable and somewhat Luxurious and that's what matters.

Forbes should stick to reporting corporate news anyway.

maybe the original poster could post this thread too in the car talk section in off-topic and there would be even more different opinions about it.

have you guys seen that youtube video about the riese report with al and laura riese? al goes on and talks about why Lexus overtook Acura even if Acura was the first Japanese luxury brand.

I have read before where it has been stated if you want to buy a TL, you can get a fully loaded Accord for about five grand less.

I know, comparing the Accord and the TL is apples and oranges, but a fully loaded V-6 Accord w/navi is about 5k less than a TL w/navi.

yeah but with the Accord your car is more common, you get less warranty, no loaners, and roadside assistance, and people who say it's only a Honda.

What are you trying to factor into this argument? That the accord should be in this list? That the TL should be cheaper? It's already one of, if not the best value vehicles in its class. Really, any cheaper, and it would cannibalize its own luxury status (people wouldnt view it as a luxury product). I think 5k more for the luxury brand + all the additional features, styling, and perks is worth it.

I think one of the reason's Acura isn't on the list is that a lot of the car lineup's including the TL weren't always named what they are today. I mean wasn't the RL a Legend and the TL a Vigor? The name changing deal is still apparent to this day with the Integra to RSX/TSX. Maybe the brand has been around for awhile but the car lineup hasn't yet officially established it's certain ground in terms of naming conventions. Lexus has always had their ES, GS, LS, etc. Anyways, just a random thought on my take of Acura.

JD, as always, you crack me up! But you shouldn't sugar-coat your responses...just tell us how you really feel!

Who cares what Forbes says? When did Forbes become a valid source for automotive reviews? Whenever I tell freinds I bought a new Acura TL, they all say something like "WOW, NICE CAR!!!!" or "WISH I COULD AFFORD ONE OF THOSE". I think the public at large knows the value of our cars, and their place in the new car market.

Indeed!

And a quick to this quote for the Jaguar:

Other upscale features include electronic brake force distribution to prevent skids, wood trim and a 120-watt sound system.
I was not aware that a 120w sound system was considered upscale. The basic Civic HU has 160w.
