What is this part called and how should I repair it?

Hi everyone,

I scratched the right side of my 05 TL, the area is:

What is this part called and how should I repair it?-ka7v6ht.jpg
(this is not my car btw )

Could you guys tell me what this area/panel is called? If you could give me the parts number it'll be even better!

Also, what's my best option to repair this? should I change the entire panel or paint it?

Thanks in advance!

that panel is steel and apart of the whole car.
you cant simply switch it out.

it has to go to a body shop.
they will pull the dents, smooth the scratches and repaint it.

Thanks for the quick reply! Just curious, do you know roughly how much it'll cost for everything you mentioned?

I'm not a body man, so I have no clue.
I have a big dent in a steel panel on my TL and its gonna come out to about $1200. pull dent, smooth with bondo, and re-paint.

your booboo shouldnt cost as much as mine as yours is a little easier to get to and easier to repair.

They had to replace the entire rear quarter panel.

replacing rear quarter panel requires removing the rear window and cutting off the panel, then welding on a new one, thats why its so expensive and most people rather repair their existing one if possible

I just got a quote from allstate for $848 n some change for tht exact same dent in the exact same place n a scrape tht strted just at the end of my door handle on front door, rain all the way down the rear door n stop at the dent just at the lip of the wheel well...dent looks identical to yours plus I had the door repairs n allstates estimate which is an insurance estimate so it's good at any body shop but like I said $848 n change thts for a new rear quarter panel n labor to remove, install & repaint.

There's no way they're replacing the quarter for $848. The panel itself retails for $867. It would be a $2000 job all in. They're just filling and painting for $848.

i had a few dents right in that area. I took it to a paintless dent remover guy for the most part he did a good job but there are still very small dents on there.

depending on how bad it is maybe a paintless dent remover can help

Hello everyone I see this has been posted a year ago but let me help everyone out since I work at a body shop. The quarter panel is built in two panels. One is the inner panel and the outer skin which is what's painted on your vehicle. If it's just a dent there like justnspace said, it gets pulled out as best as possible, gets sanded, smoothed out with bondo and painted. More then likely on that area since it's close to the rear door the door needs to get blended with paint so the paint of the quarter is not so different from the rest of the car. When a car gets hit dead on, on that area and it catches the inner panel. That's when the whole quarter panel gets replaced to straighten the inner panel. Rear windshield, trunk, rear bumper would all have to be removed in order to do that. So any estimate that's under $1000 and the quarter panel is getting replaced, I would really really question that.
