What is a good price for a used 2004 TL with 2700 miles

What is a good price to negotiate down to for a USED 2004 TL w/ 2700 miles??

Dealer is asking 31,500. I know for a brand new one w/o nav can be less than that.

I'm thinking about 26k tops. Let me know. The dealer is in NJ. Carfax reports shows 2

records for the VIN number. Thanks.

Carfax reports 2 records normally--one for dealer, one for sale to original owner. In theory, having only two records is a good thing. Otherwise, we need more info to give you more precise info, like everyone else is saying.

That VIN is pretty early. I wouldn't pay over 30k.

With all due respect, why would anyone buy a used car for 30K if they can buy a brand new one for 31,300 (trust me on this number)?

For $1,300, wouldn't you just buy a new one? This is why cars drop so much when you drive them off the floor - unless the car is very hard to get (long waiting list).

Werd. Get a new one unless you get it for like you say... $26k. That might be worth passing up a new one.

OK, now we've got all the info. Since it's a navi model, you've got a decent price, but ask whether anything's wrong; you should also remember that there are reports from your part of the country (northeast) that people have gotten deals just above the stated price for a NEW 5AT/navi model.

$26k is probably not realistic, my speculation is that you'll end up paying $29-30k. Again, a new car is a better deal.

Edit: dumb mistake removed.

If I were you, I would be bit cautious about the car. If it is an early VIN number then howcome it only has 2700 miles? Even a demo model from early 04 TL should have more miles than that.

I would suggest making sure that you are completely familiar with NJ's Lemon Law before you walk out of that dealership with that car. My limited understanding of the NJ's Lemon Law is that it covers you for 2 years 18000 miles from the day of purchase. If the dealer fixes the same problem more than three times or cannot fix a problem but agrees that there is a problem then the Law applies to your car.

Good luck!

Don't know why your lecturing me. I am just saying that IF I was going to buy a used car, it wouldn't be a low VIN like that. I agree he should just buy a new car. Tell him, not me, I don't really care.

Not enough fiber in your diet? I was responding to your comment that you wouldn't pay over 30K. My point was that I didn't know why anyone would even pay that much. You made the comment, not the guy originating the post. So I have no choice but to quote your comment to make my point. You implied it was worth 30K and my opinion was it is not. That's what forum are for - to debate points and give our opinions.

A SSM 6MT/Navi (9700 miles) just went for $29,100 on EBAY. Don't know if a 6MT would command a higher price because it is rarer, or lower because most folks want an auto.
IMHO around $30K would be about right if it has no issues (dents, dings etc).

All,

Many thanks for your opinions. Much appreciative... I'm in no hurry to buy so I'll just evaluating.
I think I'll skip this deal and wait for a better one coming along...
