what gas should i use???
The high compression motors in the TL, especially Type S models, require 91 MINIMUM
in the mountains- if you can get 93- use it
Using 87-89 does many bad things to the car- things you cant see
If you are sweating a dollar or 2 a tankful more in gas prices- get a Yugo or a used Prius
and let us know how it does on track days

Hey, you can always fill the tank half way, that will save you money at the pump....

And the reason why I answered, is because I can't get over someone buying a high quality car, like the TL, and then they want to go and skimp on the type of gas they use. Like I said before, if you can't handle the little bit extra $$ for premium gas, buy another car.

i did it but i didnt find out the search
thats why i posted the stupid question.....
ok fellas, lets calm down now....as for the question, use 91...personally i would never put anything below this...i know some ppl are tight on cash but when you buy this car you know what sacrifices you've got to make...i don't know what the difference is when you put in 89 b/c i've never done it, but i say 91 all the way!
shit i put 93 in my 2000 tl.... althought its a dime extra i feel the difference =).... my parents had put 89 when they were paying for my gas, but a week or 2 after i started paying for it and only got premium then on.

if the car says premium... use premium.
if it requires 91 octane its because it burns hotter... if you use 89 or 87 then you won't get as good of gas mileage. You might save a whole $1.50 at the pump but you'll end up back at the pump sooner from the bad mileage than you would have so you really aren't gaining anything.
if you fill up once every 7 days and its $40 a tank with premium... you'd probably have to fill up ever 5-6 days with mid grade for $38.50 a tank.
do the math... in the long run you'll just be wasting money.

You think you're saving $$ by buying regular, but in reality, YOU'RE NOT!
This engine has a compression ratio of 11.00, and that means PREMIUM FUEL ONLY!
91 octane or higher..........PERIOD. And to clear up the 91 versus 93 debate, 93 is the standard octane in most of the country except on the west coast where the standard premium is 91. Don't ask me why.
If you can afford to buy an '07 Type-S, you can afford the extra few cents a gallon at the pump. If you can't afford the gas, get rid of your TL and get a car where the manufacturer's recommendation is to use regular.

And FWIW, we all better be prepared for $4+/gal. With oil jumping to $90 a barrel, it's not that far off.
