Is the chassis that different between a base and a TypeS? I thought it was just diff engine, and perhaps slightly different engine mountings.

how different can they be? maybe its different part # because of the mounting holes for the different tranny and engine but in terms of overall handling of the car, the ua6 and ua7 chassis should be very similar. a ua6 with coils and upgraded sway bars should handle the exact same as a ua7 with coils and upgraded sway bars

IMHO a base 04-06 will out handle a base 07-08 based on what I have read here on this site. The suspension is stiffer on the 04-06. I could be wrong though.....

yea i read that somewhere too. what about the type s? talking chassis-wise only, coils and sway bars are not part of the equation

All '04 - '06 and the base '07 - '08 are UA6. Even so, the suspension on the '07 - '08 base is the softest of all 3rd gen, so your comment on handling is probably correct.

Only the '07 - '08 TL-S are UA7.

I had always assumed the difference (UA6 v UA7) was engine related (J32 v J35).

Corrected for you. The UA1 was a 2.0 five cylinder model that never existed in the US.

I know you're looking for some sort of acronym but you won't find one unless you make one up.

It stands for UberAcura (strange because it sounds German).

Its the VIN code for the car! All car models must have different VIN combinations that detnote changes such as engine, model, etc.

For example 19U means the car was made in america by honda/acura
Then UA6 means 2004-2008 TL
Then the next few denotate Auto/Manual w/ or W/O summer tires, and then the last few is the sequence # of the car off the line.

UA6/7 just means Third Generation Acura TL basically

everyone's right, but phrased that way, it is inclusive of all 04-06 Acura TLs (And when they're worth 5K, Honda TL Type R with red badging and bi-plane style trunk lids)
