What Does That "Lock" Switch Do?

On both front doors (drivers side / passenger side) there is a vertically mounted black matte plastic 'switch' (for lack of a better word) with printed lock icons on them. The top icon is an 'open' lock. The bottom icon is a 'closed' lock.

Can someone tell me what these do?

TIA

Good question. My car atleast also comes with a circular black leather 'ring' mounted in the dash on the left side of the car. Doesn't seem to perform any useful purpose. Anyone?

The items you question are only operational on BSM equipped TLs. Without the BSMs, the switches and levers in question, DO NOTHING....

Only for you "BJ"

Question on the BSM's, mine were a bit too long and that Stickum™ is so strong I couldn't realign in time and they now cover the seam between the door and the pillar. Do you guys climb through the sunroof when this happens? Or do you use the trunk passthrough?

My dealer had me crawl through the "passthrough". This was a pain after three or four days, but I really liked the BSM's. After the first week I did complain about this to ACS and they promptly sent me a sharp utility knife and applicable TSB. Doors now open.

Are you talking about the outside mirror adjusting button? It won't do anything unless you put the switch above it to either left or right. The center is "off". To the left of it is the mirror heater switch. Push on; push off.

I believe Kefler was referring to what is commonly known as the "steering wheel". And I don't know what its for either... btw, what's my prize for guessing correctly?

I also have one of those black round 'ring' things coming out of the dash. I'm not sure of exact purpose but I find it very convenient for resting my hands on long trips. Same thing with the protrusions from the mats under the dash. Nice place to rest the feet.
