What to do about the storage bin rattle

I know some of you have suggested leaving the top storage bin below the radio open to silence the rattle. Up until now that has worked fine for me. But now the damn thing rattles all the time. Open or closed. Has anyone been able to fix this rattle?

I know exactly how you feel. Mine does the same thing. Damn frustrating. However, I must also say that, other than the driver's butt print problem, the storage bin rattle is literally the ONLY complaint that I will have to bring to my dealer's attention when I go in Tuesday for the car's fist oil change. If he offers any brilliant suggestions, I'll pass them along.

You're lucky. I have a continous buzz that can be felt through steering wheel. Still, the car is a blast to drive. Good luck with finding a fix.

I had a slight buzz, not exactly a rattle in the driver storage compartment near the sunglass and coin holder. What I did to stop it was to keep a small, new, never washed chamois rolled up and stuffed inside the storage bin. It seems that the added "mass" of the chamois "damps" the plastic enough to keep the buzzing under control. Also, the chamois is good to wipe smears off the windows, gauges, or dashboard..just make sure to use a new soft chamois. This might work if you stuff it inside the compartment that's giving you the problem...make sure it's big enough to actually put pressure inside the plastic bin. The damping effect from the chamois works really well for buzzing plastic.

Hey,

yeah, but I had the dealer eliminate it (I have been on a rattle/buzz kill program and that was one that I didn't get to fix myself). It seems they removed the entire unit and "padded" around the outside. I suspect it isn't the door itself (although it certainly seemed that way at the time), but is in fact a loose fit of the bin, which for some reason comes and goes depending upon the position of the door. Whatever the problem, you dealer should easily be able to fix it. If they need to call someone, have them contact Acura of Auburn (Mass.) and speak with one of the service managers.

Good luck, it is a great car with a few minor glitches that (usually) can be fixed. Sorry about your steering wheel vibration, that is a bigger deal.

Take it to the dealer and let them fix it. I had mine fixed and it is perfect now. Why drive around with the door open or some other nutty thing like that.

I had the buzz on delivery and opening up the door kept it quiet. I did bring it to the attn of my service dept and they applied some clear silicone grease to the hinges and it stopped after a few days. Honestly it could have been that the buzzing died on it's own but the only other real way to fix it is by replacing the cubby unit which will require the removal of the center console and the aluminum trim pieces. That alone scared me. I guess I got lucky. But like other said, take it to the dealer so that they can diagnose and address it. Just tell them you want them to replace any interior trim they damage in the process should they deem it necessary to replace the cubby. Good Luck.

This has been asked and answered a gazillion times, but i used black adhesive-backed felt disks attached to the door and its contact points on the center stack. I bought them from www.mcmaster.com

These also fixed the sunshade mirror buzz, and the glove box buzz. They can be stacked, and the fact that they compress allows you to use a fair amount of them to damp resonance, but still have enough "give" to allow the push to open mechanism to launch.
